Scapular + Sharp Plug Combo?

Does anyone know how this works? The wiki is saying with half a heart and one soul heart, I'm assuming I also have to have the scapular effect up too before using sharp plug. I tried using sharp plug at 2 hearts to test if damage is checked at half heart intervals but it killed me instantly, so I don't understand how having one soul heart is enough to keep me alive for scapular to take effect again

Scapular activates when you take damage that leaves you at half a red heart. I think to get infinite rerolls out of that setup, you'll want to have your HP at half a red heart and one soul heart. When you use Sharp Plug, it'll consume your soul heart (because they're spongy like that, so half a soul heart would work too) and you'll get another back instantly. Having the Wafer or Cancer starsign would make things a lot easier though.
