Is Dr. Fetus even worth picking up anymore?
Every time I get this item, I find myself taking damage from my own bombs (ovbiously) constantly but not dealing enough damage to make up for it. I then remember the item in the original game, being absolutely amazing and almost an insta-win item. Now it's just horrible. At least to me. It pretty much just deals slightly more damage than a normal tear, as opposed to the regular bomb damage it had in the original game. Is it really any good anymore?

(QUICK EDIT I SHOULD HAVE PUT IN) I'm refering to the item on it's own. I know it'd be better with Pyromaniac but that means i'd have to get lucky with the seed.

Yes Dec 12, 2014 @ 2:14pm
Yes, it has great synergies
Milky! Dec 12, 2014 @ 2:14pm
I am aware. But what if those synergies don't come up?
Nani Dec 12, 2014 @ 2:16pm
Infinite bombs? Yes please. Also one of the most annoying bugs it had got removed, though that was more a case of a certain enemy being bugged. Namely the Globins: Hit them once with a bomb and the bombs start to slide through them, making it rather complicated to hit them again.

Very dangerous as explosions can damage you and no matter how much damage upgrade you have, tears are always better than fetus. Unless i have pyromaniac or remote detonator i don't pick it up.

Quick question: Did they nerf Mega Fetus as well? Haven't gotten that item yet. I hope they havent.

Tears aren't very helpful with tinted rocks or getting a chance to open the retro item room though. I just can't say no to infinite bombs.

Epic Fetus seems as strong as ever, plus additional synergies like quadruple rockets when combined with mutant spider for example.

Good point. It's very good in that sense, but It doesn't seem to deal significant damage anymore.

I am quite willing to be patient if it means infinite bombs.

I know I am repeating myself, but this advantage is just too crazy not to mention it multiple times.

Access to every secret room on every floor: Check.
Access to every tinted rock, being able to access certain parts of a room via blasting rocks into holes, uncovering trapdoor with ladders: Check
The specific obstacles can, partially, drop damage upgrades ... so it's not too bad I think.

Sadly I got epic fetus more oftne than Dr. Fetus, so I can'T even speak from experience, jsut from what I witnessed in that particular challenge that starts with Dr. Fetus.

It's an even better utility item than the x-ray glasses in my eyes.

So, try using it as a utility. OK then. Maybe it won't be as bad as I currently see it.
Moonfang Dec 12, 2014 @ 2:45pm
Sorry if someone already said it, but Epic Fetus is still insanely good, its still as good as it was in the original
From what i can tell, it hasn't been nerfed at all
EDIT: Oh somebody already said it, sorry, but oh well

Dr. Fetus feels like a downgrade and hurts more than it helps; Splash Damage and infinite bombs are good, but delayed hits, self-damage, tears down, and a special item (Taking Special Items makes it rarer to find other special items such as Brimstone, Soy Milk, etc.)

Haha, no. Maybe if I have homing Mutant Spider, but I rarely take Dr. Fetus.

To sum up: People have different opinions. But most agree that Dr. Fetus is worth picking up at least sometimes.
NamelessNP Dec 12, 2014 @ 3:32pm
I would never take it unless I already picked up something that synergizes well with it first, otherwise its pea shooter damage would make late game a nightmare with its slow killing speed compared to regular tears.

Dr. Fetus scales with your tear damage so it is worthwhile to pick up. Its only slightly weaker than regular bombs but its still stronger than your tears.

Fetus early one sucks more than your regular tears and are so much worse than the regular bombs at first. It's so not worth picking early on. Epic Fetus though is always worth picking 'cause the damage is really good.
