How to avoid Greed in Rebirth?
Seems like whenever I actually have 15 coins, Greed shows up. Kill him, and then on the very next floor I get Super Greed. I just want to buy his wares, why do I have to get into a boss fight every time I have the money to afford them?

This has been my main major issue since the original game. Its annoying as hell and as far as I can tell there's no avoiding him.

I made a thread like this for a the first game, too, a while ago. The tips were basically that he was unavoidable, but that he couldn't show up 2 floors in a row. Well, now he can, since Super Greed seems a lot more common in Rebirth than he was in the original.

Edit: That and if you fought another deadly sin, then he wouldn't show up on that floor or the next floor, either (I think).

This was one of the several reasons why the original Isaac was ruined by the Wrath of the Lamb expansion and I really wish they left it out. They should have just called it Binding of Greed, because that's all you ever do anymore. Greed, Super Greed, Mini Greeds, Hangman Greeds, you can't get away from them.

I remember playing a seed using, I think, Azazel because I would have died with anyone else. At least half the rooms, two floors in a row, were all filled with masks.

Kind of off-topic, but sometimes you get those games where you get several rooms in a row of just constant Greeedheads. They're annoying because their shots are so hard to avoid, but not as annoying as the actual Greed. Just seeing him means you both wasted a key and you have to waste time fighting him.

This is from the wiki and it is for the original, so I am not sure how much of this still applies in Rebirth, but it might be nice to know:

"Greed has a chance of appearing in any shop from the Caves/Catacombs 2 onwards. He will spawn in the Caves/Catacombs 2 shop with a 50% chance and always spawn in the shop after that, unless he spawned in the previous floor, spawned in the Secret Room (which happens from the Depths 1 onwards with a 33% chance) or a different Sin is going to appear in that level.

If you have obtained only The Compass but not the Treasure Map, you are able to spot Greed if he is in the Secret Room, since then there's a miniboss icon that won't reveal a grey room icon in the background even when you get next to it. Once you obtain the Treasure Map (or approach the room with Spelunker Hat or X-Ray Vision), the miniboss icon will disappear and you will see the icon for the Secret Room as usual, yet it will still contain Greed.

Only one of the Seven Deadly Sins can appear on a floor in their own designated room, meaning that if the player has already fought one of the Seven Sins in a room marked on the map, Greed will not appear in the Shop or Secret Room."

Basically, the best way to avoid him is to learn his spawn mechanics and hope that the RNG is on your side. Hopefully this helps somewhat, but again, I am unsure how much of this still applies in Rebirth.

I actually run into Greed less often than in the original overall. There have been times where I've run into Greed and then immediately Super Greed, but it doesn't bother me that much cause I'm Greedless on quite a number of my runs.

Yeah, I was hoping his chances were nerfed or something, but I guess not. So, assuming the same from the first game, he's gone from the first 3 floors but after that he basically always appears unless there's another deadly sin on the floor. So the only way to avoid fighting him after the 4th floor is to avoid the shop entirely.

You would think they would at least make Greed and Super Greed share the one-floor cooldown.

EDIT:

I'm also Greedless on a majority of my runs, but only because I don't enter shops past the third floor on a majority of my runs.

It's anecdotal for me. I go into pretty much all the shops, and on the majority of runs I fight Greed once. Quite often zero, and rarely twice.

I wish I had your luck with keys lol.

Not totally luck, I just go into the shop first as a priority if I only have 1 key. Most of the time there's a key on sale inside with my level 4 shop.

That's actually a really good gameplay tip. I should keep that in mind when I have at least 5 coins.

How to proper grammar?

Greed followed by Super Greed is seriously aneurysm-bursting. They should be changed so both never appears in the shops in the same run.
