Curses
Does anyone else think the curses should be toned down a little? I'm frankly sick to death of getting them every level. I don't think they add much to the game anyway except annoyance. I certainly don't think they should be as common as they are. I would gladly pay double the price of the game for a DLC that removes them.

Really? I don't get them that often. The only one I don't particularly like is the one that removes your map. All of the other ones are tolerable.

I get them pretty much every floor. They're all intolerable. Curse of darkness actually hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. Curse of the blind can totally ruin your run if you happen to pick up tiny planet or some other nonsense. The one that removes your map makes the later levels drive me crazy. I will actually reset a good run if I get one of these in the wrong spot. It's just not something I want to deal with.

There's these things called pens and paper that you can use when you get the map curse.

I hate darkness. It doesn't do anything, it's just annoying. At least the health and map ones have a function. I thought blind removed map icons, but judging from that previous comment, it must do something else

Curse of the Blind All items are replaced with a question mark, and aren't revealed until they are picked up.

Curse of Darkness The floor is much, much darker, and is only barely lit by the player's natural aura. Occasionally rooms will be filled with swirling clouds of what could be fireflies or glowing motes of dust. Fire, explosions, and lasers will all cast light as normal.

Curse of the Lost Removes your map from the hud, making you unable to know where you're going or about to go unless you have a good memory. Same effect as Amnesia pill.

Curse of the Maze Entering a new room will occasionally take you to the wrong room. For example, going to the room on the right might instead take you to the room on the left.

Curse of the Unknown Removes your health from the HUD, leaving you unable to see how many hearts remain of any kind. Health will still be tracked as normal, including soul, black and eternal hearts.

Curse of the Labyrinth Appears only on the first floor of a given area (Basement I, Caves I, etc.) Changes the floor name to 'XL', which contain 2 boss rooms, two items, and is counted as two floors.

the chances of getting a curse increases when killing stronger bosses like mom/mom's heart/satan/???

They should only show up more often in hard mode. I don't get them much in normal.

Only one I really hate getting is Curse of the Unknown. Always seems to show up when I really need to know how much health I have left.

I wish I got Curse of the Labyrinth since I find that one fun, but I never get that one. -_-

You have to try and get a black candle if you see it in shop, but I am sure you know that already, there are about two curses that bug me the most though. Curse of the blind and curse of the maze. I hate picking up dead cat when I am stacking red hearts and I hate being sent to different rooms just as I am going through the boss door.

If curse of the darkness is too dark for you then I suggest messing with the gamma to brighten it up a bit.

"The curses bring nothing to the gameplay except being annoying"... Srsly? This is what the bring... something annoying, and it's ok, tho like you when i get 4 curses in a row i rly dont like it but hey, it's the game!

Something I was pondering for the last few days is that certain items should prevent specific curses. So for example

Curse of the Blind: prevented by 20/20 since it makes no sense to be blind and have perfect vision, other eye based objects like Cain's other eye, inner eye, lost contact etc.

Curse of the Lost: having a Map / Blue Map, it makes no sense to get lost with a map of where you are

Curse of the Maze: any item that leaves a trail, like Aquarius, Juicy Sack

Curse of Darkness: Spelunker's Hat (because it's a hat made for exploring caves, it has a light on it for a reason), and the candles (blue, red)

I'd also be in favour of specific items increasing the likelihood of certain curses, for example I'd love to see Taurus increase the chances for Curse of the Labyrinth (the minotaur's labyrinth), Dark Matter increase Curse of Darkness etc.

Like I said though, this is just something I pondered, not something I'm legitimately suggesting anywhere.

I swear i've had the blind curse happen on depths 2/necropolis 2 my last 4 runs in a row....

I agree with most of these, except the first one (Blind) and third one (Maze). Seems like they would be a little too easy to circumvent since those items aren't too uncommon. Maybe put the secret passive on just one or two of those items instead of all of them.

Taurus increasing chances for Labyrinth would be awesome. Though I may be biased since I am a Taurus, Taurus is one of my favorite items, and Labyrinth the least detrimental curse of them all unless you get it on the first floor (and aren't Cain).

Black candle guys. Also I like the curses (especially maze and labyrinth), they add something interesting to the game.
Netsa Nov 16, 2014 @ 2:40pm
I just dislike how common they are. Playing on normal mode and still seem to get a curse every second or third floor. There's only so many bad-RNG things that can happen in a single run before I'm done for the day. Curse of the Lost on any floor after Depths 2 (trying to get to the boss as fast as possible, can't see the map). Curse of the Unknown as Samson. Curse of the Blind leading to a Soy Milk. Ugh.

Also, never seen Black Candle. Either I haven't unlocked it, or I have worse luck than I thought.
