How the hell does Breath of Life work?!

I tried holding it down: Took Dmamge.
Tried Holding it and released it: Took Damamge.
I tried Over-holding it: Took damage.
WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO?!

You're supposed to use it if you're about to get hit, it works as a manual shield but only for a very short period of time.

Once you deplete the six charges, it gives you free invincibility for one second if you're still holding the button. If you hold it for a longer duration, then you'll start to take damage. Good for stuff like blood banks and demon beggars, awful for combat unless your timing is spot on.
