Maybe if the Lost itself was reworked to be an actual ghost that could maybe phase through things would at the very least be neat.
Lost does need more speed but those spectral tears are so good .
D6 + Spectral tears is the obvious choice here. Though the D4 could work too (so the Lost doesn't have the same item as Isaac).
Another thing that would make a the lost run (and any run) smoother is: when you launch a new game, the treasure room of the first level will always be where you spawn. I don't think it's a game-breaker and it would save a LOT of time and unnecessary effort. "Oh yeah, sure, I just survived a bunch of 4-rooms with friggin' spiders vomitting armies of the most annoying ennemy in the game to get the poop, I'd love to do that again. What? Holy water? Kamikaze? Sure, I play only to take 3 intense minutes to get those!"
He's fine as he is.
You now you don't HAVE to do that, right? it's not worth going to the item room on the first floor unless it's in the spawn room or within 30 seconds of it, on the miniscule chance it's something good.
After the firrst few hours grinding the lost for my second game winning run i resorted to holding R until i spawned next to a curse room with 9 lives/guppy's collar or an item room.
