Unless you find Cursed Eye
This would only work if you already picked the item and at aleast cleared the floor (or the game) with them. It would only list the item it stacks if you picked those items previously.
So the first time you pick up an item, you wouldn't really know until you try it. And even on later playthroughs you wouldn't know if it stacks with new items or not until, again, you try it.
If not going for new stuff: Try things out and have fun
Simple as that.
I don't care about ruining the surprise, I just want to know what the items do. What makes this game fun is just how addicting it is, and that every run will be different. Surprising yourself by potentially ruining a run with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ item, is not exactly what I'd call fun, that's just annoying to me.
This is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for.
I very much like to discover stuff on my own and I do not visit platinumgod.co.uk every time an unknown item pops up. But some items are kinda impossible to figure out, especially when late in a game and you already have a ton of effects and chances and whatnot.
Also, I often need to alttab out for tarrot cards, cause I do not know them all by heart. It would just be nice to not need to tab out.
I do not think that a full explaination of all items is good thought. Its interesting, yes, but not in the spirit of the game.
Tarrot cards aside, here is what I would think would be good:
When finding (and taking) an item x times (5? 20?), you unlock the items description text. You can only view this text outside of a run. The description does not state the full math, but rather a short, non-cryptic list of effects. Like:
+ Faith up
+ 2 Soul Hearts
+ improved chance of dropping keys
It does not need to explain the Faith mechanic (or any game mechanic), just that it somehow affects it. And the % of chance is also not very relevant, just that it improves it. The ingame description can stay cryptic and fun to find out before unlocking the entry, and one does not need to read it.
edit: I also love to see the basic mechanics and math behind it all, but the game truly is not designed to give the player that info. It's no Diablo and that is a good thing. Still, _never_ providing _any_ at all info is also not the best idea ...
