How do you play co-op?

How do you play co-op? do you just press a start button when the game open or something

Enter on the keyboard, and start on controller.

If you want to play with a controller, you have to select your character with a controller, and same with keyboard. Can't change afterwards.

oh so you just pick a character? and press the start button?

If your partner plays on keyboard you have to play on the controller and press start. If he plays with the controller you press space on your keyboard. You will appear as an isaac's familiar and take one of his points of health.
