how to unlock Cathedral/The Chest/Dark Area?

How do i get to these areas for sure? I made it to Sheol once, but i can't figure out how to trigger whatever it is that lets you go past the Mom's Heart area into the next part instead of ending the game normally.

You need to accumulate the stat Evil or Faith by either getting some Deals with the Devil or Angel. The entrance to either Sheol or Cathedral spawns then in another Deal room after beating mom's heart.

At least that's how I do it.

If a Devil/Angel room appears after you kill Mom's heart there will always be a portal to Sheol/Cathedral. To generate one 99.9% of the time you need to kill Mom's Heart without taking damage. I think Tuxedo's option is more accurate and more doable though.

To be honest I don't know what Chest/Dark areas are so I'm not sure what they require.

After you unlock It Lives you'll be able to choose which one to go to. Until them, it's a crapshot as far as I can tell.

Realiable way is to kill Heart 9 or 10 times, then you will be able to go to any of two. Unrealiable is to bank on a deal with the devil/angel.
Chest was uncloked by killing Isaac a bunch of times in the original.
No idea about the dark room.

i keep on getting devil rooms, but not the angel ones somehow. And wtf is the dark area anyway? Gah, im not even to 9 complete runs yet.

After 11 ( or 10 not sure) mom's heart kills you can choose which path you go to sheol or cathedral. After completeing each area 6 times you get the polaroid and the negitive for either the chest or dark room. You can choose the items after depths mom for later use.

To get angel rooms to spawn, you can't take any of the devil room deals. The first room is always a devil room.

If you take Deals with the Devil you lessen your chance for the Angel Room to appear heavily. If you want to find Deal with the Angel rooms, you enter the Devil rooms but take no deal. In the successive floors your chances to spawn the Angel rooms are now higher unless you take items or trinkets which increases your Evil score opposed to your faith.

I got lucky in the cathedral,
i got one of those retro rooms which leads to the secret room with a trapdoor and my first trip into the cathedral allowed me to go to the chest and kill ??? early.
