Probably because if you get soul converter and guppys paw on the same floor, you basicly got infinite health

It was a glitch, he never intended us to have over the limit :P

right, maggie totally doesn't start with infinite health :/

Having infinite hearts is like having godmode on. It makes it so you have to TRY to die to even see your hearts begin to deplete.

Honestly I think it was a good change.

^^A little different, soul converter+guppy's paw can together generate a literally infinite amount of full heart containers and soul hearts, with no charge times on either. There had to be some cap, and 12 was the intended cap in the original game. The thing is that the soul heart cap was bugged in the original, allowing you to get well over 12 total hearts via massing soul hearts. I believe even in the original normal health containers were capped at 12.

so how do item combos like tech savvy challenge run and slow roll aren't totally game breaking to the point you'd have to try to lose either? wow, the logic in here, it hurts.
You guys do know it was never intended to be that way in the original game right? It was a glitch that they decided to keep because they liked the "mysteriousness of not knowing how many hearts you have." I like the change, it makes the game much more challenging.

I agree that some item combos need some balancing. But having infinite health means you CANNOT die. That makes the game far too easy.

If you don't like being stuck with 12 hearts then maybe try finding a way to break the heart cap.

It's really not even an issue. If you think it's an issue take it up with the devs.

that's the main problem with it though, you're gonna wind up probably at least 5-10 hearts you just can't do a damn thing with per floor whether you try or not, that's obnoxious and it makes my compulsiveness itch, if they have to ruin the blue heart cap at least let us recycle hearts on the floor somehow.

Just because you can't collect every stray spirit heart doesn't mean that any changes need to be made to the game.

You could make the same argument with consumables and it would be just as valid. The cap is there for balancing reasons.

balance is an invalid notion while carry items exist, simple as that.

You don't even need Guppy's paw to get godmode, all you have to do is not get hit much and amass a ton of soul hearts (which is ridiculously easy) and then boom, you're undefeatable unless you don't know how to dodge.

Unless you reset all the time when you get a bad starting item room or are extremely lucky then you're more than likely not getting broken runs all of the time so it's not even remotely the same thing. Also, using a Challenge Run as an example is ridiculous as they give set items so I don't understand trying to compare it to a real run....

sorry to say but i can't read that, fix the quote first.

Ugh, I've never posted here and have no clue how to get my response out of the quote, it doesn't even have quote tags around it >_<

1. plenty of other ways to be undefeatable, if you're gonna ruin one ruin them all.
2. don't we all reset when you get a crap starter? although, i doubt i wind up with broken runs more often as a result.

So because some things aren't balanced nothing should be? I guess that you should be able to get free deals with the devil and always start with mom's knife too then.
