Empty rooms with spikes in the middle?

Sacrifice room. If you damage yourself on the spikes enough a chest will spawn. It's usually not worth it.

Maybe they made it so that it is worth it now? Back in the WoTL it was useless, so I never use them, but maybe someone tried?

The only time I ever do it is if I have one and a half hearts or two and a half and there are heart pickups on the map. If the spikes take you to half a heart the chest spawns automatically. It might be worth doing it that way if you really need a key or something.

IMO they become useful if you have finished a level and have a bunch of extra hearts laying around. Then just go back and use it until you have accounted for the extra hearts.

Ok thanks. I've tried a couple of the spike rooms and all i got was a couple of coins and a bomb. Not really worth losing health for.
