The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

My 10 cents about the save game issue. How to restore a backup save file.
So after hearing a lot of the problems the game had with the save files I made a copy of my persistentgamedata1.dat (2 and 3) located in C:\Users\Name\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Rebirth to be sure all my progress didn't die.

So I was doing a run with the dead cat (x9 lives) and when I died on my last life I rage quit (alf-f4 ) the game before the game over screen appeared. After a few seconds of calming down I relaunch the game and saw that the continue option was available. To my surprise I continued from the beginning of the last level I was playing (the womb) so I just kept playing until I died, rage quit, relaunch the game ... rinse and repeat.... and then after a few times doing this my progress disappear. Well deserved.

Well I made a copy of the save file....no problem...so I just overwrite the old file and swear not to do this glitch again.....to my surprise the old save file didn't work. I tried many things but nothing worked....no matter what it kept the blank brand new save file.

I tried the fix of changing the savedatapath.txt but no luck.

So I start checking the log and saw that it always loaded the cloud save. So I went offline, deleted the save files and launch the game....but again it always loaded the cloud file in the log.

I tested with my laptop, I installed the game, made a couple of test runs to record some progress and let the save file sync with the cloud. When I went back to my desktop I launched the game and found that the progress was synced with my laptop.

But there is no option to modify the cloud save file in the game and it load the files even if your offline.....so it must be stored somewhere in the local files.....so I found the files ...copied my old save file....and it worked my progress was restored. :)

Tldr,

Save files will always sync with the cloud, even if is corrupted. The "local cloud save backup" will remain damaged, the "local save" won't be used. So you need to overwrite the "local cloud save backup" with your backup.

local save: C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Rebirth
cloud save backup (local): \Steam\userdata\XXXXXXXX\250900\remote

You will get a popup from steam asking if you want to upload your files to the cloud when you run the game......the answer is YES.

Hope it helps for some of you......happy binding!!!!!

This will work only if you have a previous backup from your saves.

Instead of putting your backup save files in "C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Rebirth" you need to put them in "\Steam\userdata\XXXXXXXX\250900\remote"

Only then the game will recognize the save files and your save data will be restored.

even if you don't do that it saves your game. or does that method prevent you from losing your savefiles ?

As long as you keep a good save file of any of those folders should be ok. I made my copy from the documents one if that make any difference.

I think this is a way to fix it if is not saving your progress....not if you want to restore a backup file. I tried that way....but it didn't work.

So, I now have backed up my existing local cloud saves from the remote folder, if my saves are wiped, I can just copy my backup over back to "\Steam\userdata\XXXXXXXX\250900\remote"? If so, awesome find and you may have solved a lot of peoples problems.
