[New to Issac] What do all these Items Do??

This is my first time playing this game, I'm loving it so far but I'm confused about a lot of the items/upgrades in this game. Some are obvious what they do, others not so much. Sometimes I'll get an upgrade and have no idea what it does nor do I notice a chance in gameplay. I see there is a menu where you can check out the items you've found, but it still doesn't say what they do there either. Just shows you unlocked it with a picture of it. (What'st he point of that?) Am I missing something or is this apart of the "fun"

You're in the same boat as the rest of us! Everyone's still figuring everything out. There's a thread with found secrets and items if you want an idea of what people have found so far.

the way I look at it, figuring out what items do in the game is one of the perks of being an early adopter, sure you can find out for yourself if you start later, but later there are going to be people who tell you, and criticise you for not knowing, right now you get to theorize and postulate with the best of them

The point in collecting all the items is so you can get the Platinum God achievement ;)

When you collect something, it will upgrade/downgrade Isaac's abilities/act as a follower (some items are ones you have to use though). Press Q to use a pill.

So pretty much consult the Wiki to spoil it...got it.

I think the biggest ones that confuse me are the Tarot cards. There are a few that when I use them nothing happens and I can't figure out what. Another is that item that you collect and it sits in the bottom left. You don't "use" it but you can only have one? Those also have cryptic upgrades...

the ones in the bottom left are trinkets, they have passive effects, not all of them "good" ( I say good in quotations because I'm not sure if the "bad" ones are objectively bad, or just bad for certain play styles)

Just please understand that these sites come with a hefty spoiler warning and that they're of course still working out what all the new items exactly do since the game is still so new.
