The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Tips for newer players?
I have only put in 20 or so hours on the original and have a few questions. I have seen some people suggest not picking up certain hearts until after you have completed the floor and beat the boss, whats the reason for this?

Also, just some random pointers are appreciated. I am not struggling with this game by any means and am enjoying the crap out of it... (literally.... BRWN SNKE!) just figured if any of the veterans have anything to share I would take the advice!

Those hearts your talking about are spirit hearts. Spirit hearts appear has half a white heart, once paired up with another it will give you a heart container. However, I reccomend saving the spirit heart till after you beat the boss, because once you reach the next floor it will give you a full heart container without the need of a second spirit heart.

THose are called Eternal hearts, and are white i believe. I believe that the 'real' soul/spirit hearts are the blue looking ones, and they function differently then what you describe.
But yes you should take this advice if you find a eternal heart.

I've put less then 20 hours on the original and a fair amount (by that i mean kinda small) on the new one, but i've read lots of wikis and gotten lots of tips from a few of my friends which are Platinum gods on the first one and have already started zooming towards the rebirth one, so i can transfer the tips from them to you, or just give you general tips of stuff that i do know. Just add me so we can message each other to make our lives a lot easier with the messages.

So any of the silver or black hearts should just be picked up on sight?

Silver? Isn't that blue? If it really looks silver you might be confusing it with Eternal hearts since they look white to me, but yeah you should pick up black hearts on sight, just be careful because its a bit of a shame to get the last half of a black heart wiped out by a fire in a cleared room, which means it pretty much gave you no benefit with its damage.

EDIT: Sorry didn't see your earlier post about correcting, ignore part of this one.

Yeah, black hearts are pretty useful, grab em whenever you can. If you loose the heart, it will damage all the enemies in the room which can be super useful at times.

The ones I am talking about are apparently called "Soul Hearts".

Soul hearts act has heart containers that can't be refilled. Once you lose it, its gone. But luckily, their pretty common in my experience. Grab them whenever you can. Don't wait to pick them up.

yeah they are, you should probably pick those up on sight. They function the same as black hearts, but they don't deal damage when they run out.

^ Black hearts also, naturally, apply to this non-refillable rule.

Alright, so the only ones I should hold off on when I see them are the Eternal Hearts... got it.

You guys got any other useful info other than stuff pretaining to hearts?
erm other random advice......
--various rocks will have a small "x" on them and are a slightly different shade... almost blie/purple-ish..... if blown up they can give some pickups (coins hearts bombs etc)
--Arcades with the "shell game" in them (imo) are wonderfull sights.... the shell game has the possibility of giving the item "Skatole" which makes all "basic" flies not hostile and without damage. I say basic because the "boob" flies still expplode and the red boom flies still pop.
--The rooms with the spikes in them are sacrifice rooms. if you run over the spikes you have a change at getting something (to be honest I use them so rarely I dont know xD )
--keep moving... lots of homing enemies adn LOTS of things that shoot right at you. movement is your friend.... unless you are moving too fast at which point youre likely to head but an enemy ^_^

Don't forget that if you pick up the new 'stomper' item you can break those without bombs, (Also any other rocks) by walking over them.

I don't recommend using these rooms.

Glad you brought up the "sacrfice" rooms.. the ones with the spikes. I dont understand these at all and when I see them I just exit and go about the game.
