Actually, Money = Power is actually really good. At 50 cents, it's doubled the damage of Pentagram or other normal damage-ups. At 99, it's quadrupled that amount. That's actually really crazy.
1) Don't trust the stat screen too much; it's barely useful at all unfortunately. 2) At a mere 15 coins the stat screen will show an increase on damage playing as Isaac.
Money = Power increases your Damage by 0.04 per coin you have - so at 25 coins it's exactly the same as a Pentagram or Small Rock.
Or you could just bomb a few tinted rocks and get a damage up that way. Or get one of the many other damage boosting items that don't have a prerequesite of having a disposable resource you normally use to be on equal terms.
It works slightly different than that, because most Damage Up effects go through a formula - which means they have more impact the less damage you already have. So it actually raises Isaac from 3.5 to 6.64 damage output (rather than to 6.0), but the point is the same - it's a fantastic item.
There's a lot of great damage items, though - Magic Mushroom is almost the same as Cricket's Head, Proptosis is double damage (scaling down to about +30% at normal max range), Judas' Shadow gives double base Isaac damage when you revive, Mascara is double damage (though half Tears), 20/20 is almost na effective double damage (as is Tech .5), Chocolate Milk does 4x damage charged, and of course there's Poly and Sacred Heart...
