how to buy stuff in game for the coins?

I don't know lol, in the original game you only needed the coins and then you needed to walk over the item, now I tried everything, pressed all keyboard buttons aswell and nothing happened. I even threw all my coins in that Donation box in the shop area and nothing happened exept me not able to donate more as the donation box was full. Very weird, if this is it I'm wondering why they even have implemented that donation box into the new game, it's useless atm for me. And been to several shops and can't buy anything.

I've read in another topic that most items are not purchasable while running over and some are :-s so yea it's a bug.

The donation box unlocks stuff. It gets "full" sometimes or something. No idea how, or when. Seems like when you put in enough to get the next unlock. First one I got was 10c, then 20c I beleive and so on. I can't seem to get it to stay unblocked long enough to get the next one and ti doenst' seem to carry over. You can bomb it to get coins back though.

Oh cool to know about the bombing. When I put 5 coins in the one I have found it was full and nothing happened, don't know what you mean with 'next unlock' though. I saw nothing happening or unlocking.

Well...when I put in 10 coins the first time it said I unlocked the "blue Map". Next time I had to put 15-20 in and it unlocked something else.

Bombing it gives you one less than you put in from my experience, but you can get most of tehm back. It takes a few bombs too so you don't get all of tehm at once unfortunately...lol

Oh weird. I couldn't put anymore coins in it, I tried but didn't work, I saw it was filled because the coins were sticking out of the Donation box, but I did not receive a "Blue Map" message or anything at all, I just tried it again and nothing happens. I will try to search tomorrow for some fix , Reddit seems active enough but no time now, need to sleep.

Sure you have enough coins? What are you trying to buy? Are you sure you can buy it (can't get red hearts if your health is full, for example)?
