The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Why is the game running slow ?
I have no idea what's happening. I can just play all day at normal speed and when the computer is on the battery the game is like soooooooooo slow, blocked at 30 FPS. I tried 1000 things on my GPU, CPU and I know the problem isn't from my computer (he is good enough to run any game so TBOI:Rebirth isn't a problem) but maybe from Steam blocking the game speed when I'm using the battery.
Tried everything, even changing the options.ini file, help me guys I want to do my last The Lost Run and finish the game :(:(:(
(and sorry for my bad english)

Slow is a blessing. Lag actually makes the game easier if you really wanna do the Lost
But if you truly wanna do it the 'true' way then tbh call me crazy but i don't care about my games being only 30 FPS, heck i don't care about them being 14 FPS as long as its playable
but i don't make lag happen onpurpose its all on my computer :l

Fellow laptop user here has no issue with the battery, but i don't use the battery anymore hardly as the laptop is barely alive and has a stupidly low battery capacity now

The problem is your computer.

Many laptops have 2 video chips - a high powered one for gaming and a low powered one for everything else. It probably uses the low powered video chip while you're on battery. You'll have to read the manual for your computer or speak to the manufacturer to see whether you can change this.

Go to C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Rebirth, open options.ini and change VSync=1 to VSync=0

30 fps is laaarge enough for many games, but when I'm using the battery the game is in very, very, very slow-motion. A normal TBOI run would take me twice the time.. maybe a way to win with the Lost but I'd rather win in a legit way.. The game takes like 10-20% of the computer resources and he runs slow but is very stable (always 30 FPS). So weird

I can play "big" games when I'm using the battery without my laptop being on fire or anything else
But I'll seek ! There must be a tiny option or something which makes TBOI run at 30 FPS instead of 60 FPS and making the game really "slow but fluid".

Have you tried turning off special effects? (Pretty sure you can still do that.)
Have you tried reinstalling? (Please delete the game folder too in the steam folders after deleting local content.)
Have you tried closing all other programs that you can?

Fixed this sh*t a long time ago, but forgot to post in case some ppl have the same problem.
You just have to find a way to run the game on GPU. No idea why, but on battery my laptop was running the game on CPU, so it was at "capped speed". Anyway, 96% achievements, this game is awesome.

I didn't see a resolution to this issue in the comments here so I'll post my resolution. (This is for you users who use a Laptop for your gaming needs.)

My friend runs a ASUS ROG with a Nvidia Graphics card that runs through the Nvidia control pannel. On most laptops, the GPU can't run on battery at full power cause of voltage issues. This in turn causes games to slow down on battery.

To avoid this, most machines with the Nvidia GPU will have an intergrated graphics card. In this particular situation, we pulled up the "Nvidia Control Pannel" (Not the Nvidia GeForce Experience). Under "Manage 3D Settings," and on the "Program Settings" tab. In this tab, you can customize specific settings for each program on your machine. You can also select what device runs your games. Whether it's the GPU, CPU, or an intigrated graphics.

We switched this to use his Intel intigrated for Binding of Isaac, & Binding of Isaac: Rebirth only. This setting may be different for users who only have Intel, or AMD based graphics or CPUs. So I'd confirm what controls your graphics setings outside of the Windows environment & change them there.

I will note, upon testing this on my own machine, I did not have the option to change what GPU is used. This could be because I only have the Nvidia GPU and not both a GPU & an intel controled GPU as well.

Now if you have this slowness on both battery power & pluged in, then it's likely a seperate issue which would need a seperate fix. Let me know if this helps you guys.

Hi there guys. I have a few solutions for laptop users. These did work for me most of the time, not only with Isaac, but any other games, applications too.

------------------------
1.
CHANGE BATTERY POWER OPTION TO HIGH PERFORMANCE

First : No matter what way you are using your laptop, charging or running on batteries , make sure you set the power options to high performance.

This is how you do it. Im using windows 10, but 8 and 7 should be similar . Right click on the battery icon on your quick launch tray and click Power Options ( bottom right corner on default on your tray ) or
Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power options -> Choose or customize power plan ,
the High Performance option should be there , select that one , ( it might be hidden under the Additional Plans link on the same page ).
Once you found it click on the Change Plan Settings right next to it and double check that it is really been set up to High performance , by clicking on the Change Advanced Power settings link where you can also fine tune your battery settings.
Whenever you reinstall windows , you will have to do this again

2. If you are using an Nvidia Gpu
Open the Nvidia Control Panel by right clicking on your desktop
Select - manage 3d settings link from the left
From the drop down menu, find binding of isaac, whichever version you are playin with and add it.
Make sure its using the High performance Nvidia gpu from the drop down menu.
Apply , play the game. See if it works, it worked for me, no more stuttering.

I have an I5 cpu with an 840m nvidia gpu

Hope this helps , good luck

Thank you thank you thank you!!!
All this time i've been trying to get it to run better by forcing it to use the nVidia GPU! Never thinking the solution might actually be to force it to use the low-resource GPU T-T

Solved my issue in a blink!

(Still wondering why this even is an issue, though... I mean, if Intel HD can run it smoothly, but nVidia GeForce 920M has issues, there must be something truly wrong with either the GPU, the drivers, the translation within the game, ór a combination of the three. Confusing, but thankfully solved now)

Thank you so much! My Dell gaming laptop was running TBOI: Rebirth at 30fps and now it runs at 60fps! :steamhappy:
