The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Is tainted Isaac not just a worse version of Isaac?
The item limit is the tradeoff for the "more options" ability, so why does he not also start with a D6? Why would anyone play him over Isaac?

Some tainted characters are indeed meant to be harder characters.

To get Tainted Isaac's unlocks. And perhaps because of personal preferences, if played more.

I mean I'd say not having the D6 and having the passive re-roll on everything is a massive plus over essentially losing any sort of option for active items

Tainted Isaac's ability is way better than more options as it works on every item pools and even on pedestals that you generate, you can legit just pop a judgement in a secret room and get death certificate. With this ability, Tainted Isaac can scan item pools extremely quick and get exactly what he wants, if you get any semblance of additional item selection in your run you're pretty much guaranteed to break. People also tend to forget Tainted Isaac's ability to put back items he's already taken on a pedestal, this is crazy OP and allows him to take advantage of some mechanics like no other characters can. There's honestly an argument for Tainted Isaac possibility being the best character in the game.

my most insane runs were with tainted isaac, the cycling pedestals are no joke and birthright adds 4 more slots

I've been asking the same thing, wtf is the point in having the ability to reroll pedestals if you're going to have to leave behind nearly everything you see through the run? Worst character in the game, easily.

You're focusing too much on the item limit when it's really not that big of a deal. You don't need to carry 20+ items to beat the game or even have a broken build.

I find Tainted Isaac still super overpowered. You can only carry 8 items by default, but many of the ones you find are just HP-ups that you can just discard later and 8 slots (+active slot) are plenty to become OP. It's not even strictly a downside, if you factor in anti-synergies or items that can carry early on but could get annoying later (basically anything that can blow up in your face), since you can just swap those out.

T.Isaac's ability kinda like a D6 for every pedestal and if you actually get re-rolls (luck into a D6 or getting stuff like Perthro), it basically doubles their effectiveness.
The only other advantage Isaac has over his tainted counterpart is that he can re-roll the same pedestal multiple times out of the gate, which is especially strong if you get something like a battery-bum on a floor with pedestals in the secret room for a very high chance of breaking the game right there.

The same update that introduced the tainted characters also added true co-op, and I feel that Tainted Isaac (and Tainted Cain, incidentally) were designed with that fact in mind. Their limits are a lot less of a problem when other people are there to use items you can't hold.

You already made a thread about this and the general consensus was that you were wrong. You have had multiple people with 10x your experience explain why, what will it take for you to get it?
