Is Tainted Isaac meant to be unfun?
Because it sure as hell feels that way when he has such a glaring weakness in his inability to have a lot of items. Tainted Samson and Tainted Azazel were not this insufferable, hell not even Tainted Eden is, and I hate that character.

Idk. I think doubling the amount of items that you see in a run is a pretty fun trade off for having to pick between them, especially when you can set it up to burn through strong item pools twice as fast. It's not like every item that you take in a run is a winner. You get plenty of fodder pickups like HP ups to swap out for free. Not a character I play often, but not a character I avoid playing.

I just don't think being extremely limited on the amount of items I can carry is a worthy trade-off for what is basically just a stronger version of There's Options or More Options.

That's fair, too. But I think a There's Options for any of the more powerful pools like angels, devils, secrets and planetariums is also incredibly strong and more than worth the trade off. It's only really a nuisance when you already have a winning build and don't want to drop anything.

That's fair too but if I saw something I didn't want in one of those pools, guess what I could do? I could re-roll it with regular Isaac's D6.

Tainted Isaac is actually quite an easy character. And also very handy, it is the best character to find all the items and get Dead God. :isaac:

This is The Binding of Isaac. Fun is never intended. Thankfully mods fix that.

I don't know, I had fun with Tainted Samson. Got all of his marks in only a couple of hours. Running through the floors and cutting down everything in my path was super fun.

Don't say that too loud, you'll get him nerf.

Case on point how they had to SPECIFY that all the item changes coming in Rep + were "all buffs" because we know how edmund likes to balance stuff and had they not there would have been atleast a mild uproar about how more nerfs were coming.

Keep in mind this is a game that locks balance changes (specially the positive ones) behind paywalls and loves do punish player effort. Like how the stores are mostly garbage post repentance even tho you grind for those upgrades or how the damage scaling punishes you the most if you have a strong build unless you outright overwhelm the mechanic.

Edit: Also let's not forget that most certainly the great parts from repentance (like the massive amount of added synergies) come thanks to the fresh blood in the team (The antibirth crew). Prior to that AB and AB+ (specially AB+) had quite a mixed reception.

agreed. its important people know the distinction that antibirth was its own thing before it got absorbed. suffice to say it has hard carried tboi to this day

The fact that people seem to forget a group of amateur modders completely outclassed a professional development team and still take edmund and tyrone as some sort of deity is pretty baffling.

Hell even Mudeth's soundtrack is arguably better. Ridiculon is not bad at all but a case can be made for both of them. If there was a mod that let me combine both so they play at random i'd use it.

Isaac is suffocating to death inside of a chest while we're playing the game, nothing about this is supposed to be easy. There's a very good reason why all of this isn't easy and sometimes very very frustrating.

Tainted Isaac is extremely good when you know how to take advantage of his ability to put items back on a pedestal. You don't really need a lot of Items to beat the game to begin with and many items gives bonuses that stays even after dropping them, like health ups for exemple. Look for secret room items like Strawman and Rock Bottom, they are god items for Tainted Isaac, actively looking for the Birthright is also a pretty good idea.

Not in the slightest, Noita is the roguelike thats anti-fun by design.
