Good easy character to use for first run?
I can get to Mum a couple of times on Issac, just. But I still manage to just lose.

Azazel is pretty much the easiest character in the game, but playing as him doesn't really give a good feel for the other characters. And by that I mean he's ridiculously OP and meant for easy wins. What characters do you have unlocked?
Azazel.

Lol I tried my best to avoid azazel for a long time, because I've watched videos and I knew what our flying little dealer of death is.

Take 3 Devil Deal items in a single run, from a devil deal by sacrificing HP.
if you walk into a devil room with 3 items for 1 heart each, take all 3 and you'll unlock him.

Judas is pretty good as a first character for 2 reasons :

- You got low health at start , that's bad no ? yeah maybe but you'll quickly have to learn dodging in early game it's a good practice since early levels are the easier.

- You got alot of damage so if you manage to get health upgrade It will be easier to pass the harder levels.

Try using Cain if you're having issues. He has more speed and damage than Isaac, though his attack power isn't quite at Judas's level, and his increased luck causes more consumable drops to occur, not to mention better gambling at fortune tellers and shell beggars.

If you want an easy win, just use Maggie. She's generally considered the worst character by more experienced players, but she's easy to use and great for beginners, and it's very difficult to lose as her in the early stages of the game due to her innate tankiness and sustain. Her Yum Heart also has a strong synergy with a fairly common item (Habit, found in any item shop). Not the best for mechanical practice, but her safety will generally allow you to get a feel for how the game works.

Cain is also a good starter character for the reasons already mentioned. Those would be my two most recommended characters for beginners, since they are fairly low risk.

Azazel isn't so great for complete newbies imo. He's really strong to be sure, but he requires you to have pretty decent spacing and a fair amount of experience with enemy patterns to avoid stuff. He's pretty squishy to start out, and given his very low range, inexperienced players can often find themselves dying before they get some replenishable hearts. He also has a very static attack with very few synergies, so he's pretty poor for learning about the various items.

Magdalene speed man , that speed is just awfull at least you got the health to tank the damage you take because of it.
