FIX FOR MISSING COMPLETION MARKS IN THIS THREAD

hey all. when i tried to import my Repentance data into Repentance+, I lost all my completion marks. looking around, it seems like a lot of people are having a similar issue. It took me awhile but I figured out how to fix it. This is basically a guide on how to use your backup saves to retrieve progress. You will need to do this manually, using file explorer.

This is for Windows. I suspect that it will work similarly for other operating systems.

1. Open up two explorer windows. In the first one, navigate to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\########\250900\remote

where the "########" is a string of random numbers, i think it's your user id. This folder is your CURRENT SAVE DATA.

you will see three files named "rep+persistentgamedata1.dat", "rep+persistentgamedata2.dat", and "rep+persistentgamedata3.dat". these are your first, second, and third save slots. i recommend making backups of these.

2. Now, in the second window, navigate to:

C:\Users\xxxxxx\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance+\save_backups

where the "xxxxxx" is your user name. This folder contains BACKUP SAVE DATA. It's really nice that the game does this.

In this folder are a bunch of files named "YYYYMMDD.rep+persistentgamedata1.dat", "YYYYMMDD.rep+persistentgamedata2.dat", and "YYYYMMDD.rep+persistentgamedata3.dat", where "YYYYMMDD" is numbers representing the date of the backup.

3. In the BACKUP SAVE DATA folder, copy the persistentgamedata1.dat, persistentgamedata2.dat, and persistentdata3.dat of the last date that your savefile was working correctly. So for example, if your save file last worked on April 30th, 2025, you want to copy the files called "20250430.rep+persistentgamedata1.dat", "20250430.rep+persistentgamedata2.dat", and "20250430.rep+persistentgamedata1.dat".

4. Paste these files into your CURRENT SAVE DATA folder. Delete the old save files (that you backed up!) and rename the new save files to "rep+persistentgamedata1.dat", "rep+persistentgamedata2.dat", and "rep+persistentgamedata3.dat".

This should fix it.

ONE MORE THING: If this is your first time playing Repentance+, you may have to look in another folder for your backups. In step 2, you will want to navigate to:

C:\Users\xxxxxx\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance\save_backups

with no "+". then follow the directions like normal.
