-24 Win streak....
Any tips for this game? I've put a few hours into it and enjoy it but can never seem to complete a session. Thanks

Not getting hit seems to be a good strategy in my experience.

Game's bullisht. You're gonna die more than any soulslike game. The more you play and unlock, the more it gets harder. So unless you're playing it to pass the time because you literally have nothing better to do then avoid this trash ass game. If you think it's hard now, wait until you unlock The Lost. I believe there's a special place in hell where they make people play this game on that character for all eternity.

@Smited Olly so the best way to keep a good win streak is to grab Azazle, Azazle has not only the second highest speed, but has an modified version of one of the best Passives in the game Brimstone. You can unlock Azazle by getting three items from devil deals (You need to sacrifice red heart containers for items). You find Devil Deals by getting lucky after killing your floor boss (Except for first floor), getting lucky with Red Chests, or use the Joker card. (Note your Devil Deal may get replaced by an Angle room and it won't count to the unlock). Hopes this helps!

Oh also The Modified Brimstone has a shorter range instead of the Inf range from the normal one, plus if you find the normal Brimstone then you will gain the Inf range.

Try to unlock Azazel, it’s very easy to play with it.

collect lots of soul hearts to get a devil deal after a boss fight (starting from basement 2, where it's guaranteed if you don't take red heart damage on that floor) and there may be an useful item available. you get them from blowing up tinted rocks or you can buy one in a shop. if you don't take any devil deals you may come across an angel room where you will find an item for free but the best items in there have to be unlocked.

if you don't know what an item does you can look it up on this website

Put in a few dozen more hours. Practice makes perfect and stuff.

don't let the second guy ruin your idea of the game, the game is difficult but there are a ton of hidden mechanics and things you need to know in order to do well and manage your items. I recommend watching a few youtube vids, doing the base challenges, multiplayer, and you'll chip away at progress. The streaks also don't really matter because a lot of the time it really just does come down to luck, but through around 500 hours of practice I went from sucking and dying on the first floor every time to being close to finishing a whole save file. The game is unforgiving at times but there's nothing better than getting an item or item combo that breaks the game or saves your run when all hope is lost.

there are many, many unspoken rules and interactions in the game so I recommend pulling up the wiki (or platinum god, it a catalog website) and either matching the picture or text from when you pick it up because there are some trash items like "uh oh no.2" that will ruin your run

i assure you there's harder characters lost is quite easy if you aren't ass at the game

The game is hard, very hard. People who have played for hundreds of hours forget how hard it really is when you don't know how to take advantage of a bunch of it's hidden mechanics. But the game isn't unfair. (With an exception being the some of the content they added in AB+, but it's mostly besides the point.)
Learning boss attack patterns and remembering how to clear some of the more difficult room layouts is like half of the game's challenge. Generally, once you start playing well enough that you actually feel confident using your health as a resource, you'll win almost every run.
The core of the game is about risk management and resource manipulation, so once you're comfortable enough to clear the first 6 floors without feeling like you're fighting for your life, it becomes more about forcing the game to give you as many possibilities to make you stronger as possible.

Until you're comfortable with the mechanics, it's recommended to play Azazel and learn how to dodge some of the common enemy attack spreads. His gimmick is that he has little attack range, but has the highest dps of all the starting characters. Being able to fly makes you able to trivialize a lot of bosses and easier enemies, too. He's a good beginner character because he is a good demonstration of how you should be leveraging the build you get to your advantage.

Greed, Dingle, Super Greed, and the Fallen in particular have a projectile attack that's the bread and butter of half of the combat in this game. If you can learn how to reliably dodge that and continue to hit them while you're actually dodging those attacks, you can apply a similar idea to a ton of the different attack spreads in the game.

It used to be better. Repentance came along, and some chucklehead decided to make hard mode so packed with enemies that it's unfun. Normal mode is pretty much the old hard mode before Repentance now. More enemies would have worked if the item pool wasn't filled with useless garbage each booster pack added. I'm starting over on PC and I can see how this would be brutal for new players. They messed it up so bad, I'm wondering if some weirdo working there hates this game. It didn't use to be this brutal, I've been playing it for a decade now, and it was more fun before. Why couldn't they just add the new content and be done with it? I'm not saying it's too hard for me, simp that's about to respond to this, you can see my achievements this week since rebuying it, I'm fine. Reality is reality. The best idea is to memorise the items or do what the cheaters do, and mod everything. It's pretty much about memorising items though, and knowing what to not pick up. I used the Isaac wiki back when I didn't know the items, just look on there each time you don't know what something is, and you'll have a better time.

Congrats on the win. I have definitely had -80 or more win streak trying to do specific things. So don't feel too bad about it.

This. Repentance was a big FU to me and I stopped playing for a long time after it came out. I'm only recently starting to do runs here and there and completing some marks.
