my current fix for game not starting seems to be buying all the dlc's?

Like many others experiencing, pressing the play button on steam does not boot the game and goes back to the play button showing. After the song and dance of verifying, restarting and the rest, I tried booting the .exe file from the files explorer (C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Binding of Isaac Rebirth). I got a notice that a “Lua5.3.3r.dll” could not be found. So, I made a copy of the “Lua5.3.3f.dll” and changed the f to an r and the game finally booted. The game gave a notice that I needed afterbirth+ to run repentance+ before closing instantly (I think that’s what it said.) I bought the dlc then tried to boot it again and got another notice saying I needed repentance to play repentance+. I went ahead and did that, and it finally booted the game and worked finally. I don’t know if there is some issue about missing files needed to run repentance+ that are scattered amongst the dlc’s but I hope they resolve this issue causes it sucks otherwise, the game is great.

Tl;dr: I bought all the dlc and everything works fine now.

It is called Repentance plus because it is an expansion of Repentance. The steam page tells you that you need all other items. Wish that they stopped you from getting the dlc unless you had all other dlcs

The actual "fix" was not to use Rep+. But now you have a complete game so that's also a win.
