Making Book of Revelation or Satanic Bible your priority (so go to the libraries whenever there's one). It's even better if you manage to have the "recharge items" from the shops (especially Car Battery).
Curse Rooms are free (you can fly in and throw yourself out so you don't take damage) so go there every floor. There's a trinket to have 2 curse rooms spawn every floor. Take advantage of that. There you'll find black and spirit hearts along with some neat items.
Since you can fly from the start, you'll get plenty of money. If there's nothing to buy in the shop and you have extra to spare, spend some coins to increase your angel room chances: donate to the donation machines, donate to beggars until they pay off, and bomb the "devil beggars". The few extra % you gain from that isn't much, but it'll maybe get you an extra angel room that COULD make the difference (could be the wafer, for exemple).
If you manage to get Birthright (from the shop), that'll help a lot. It allows you to retrieve your corpse from a distance, saving you the need to put yourself in danger).
Another Item that you may not think of at first but ends up being extremely useful is the glowing hourglass. If you ♥♥♥♥ up during a room and end up getting hit multiple times, just use it and it'll reset you back to the previous room with all your health you had then. Also if you go to the void with it, you can have a LOT of attempts at Delirium (or any other boss on other floor). Just fight him as early as possible and if during your fight you end up down to one health, use the hourglass, go clear 3 rooms, to have it ready to use, and have another go at it. Rinse and repeat.
Beside that, in the end, it's all about rng and the items you get. Just persevere and keep pushing).
Hope this somewhat helps, best of luck. :)
Was playing Greedier mode with Tainted Forgotten just now and found Monstrance halfway in. Turned a doable run into a cakewalk.
Besides what the other guy said, he behaves weird with beggars. For charging ones, if you want to charge the item, you need to throw the Forgotten into the beggar rather than just touching him. For Devil Beggars (and maybe Blood Donation machines?) You can do double-taps with him, presumably due to how i-frames work on him? Other characters have been nerfed to only do one, but if you hug him, you can get two heart offerings in at the cost of one. You'll only want to do that if you have plenty of soul hearts to spare though, and you want to be carrying the Forgotten while you do so.
Ignoring the first devil deal (not entering) means the next one will be an Angel Room, 100% (if you get it). In that case, blowing up beggars rather than having them payout is also better, since it increases Devil Deal/Angel Room chance, while paying out only increases the chance for Angel over Devil (which for this case is worthless). If you can afford it, killing Angels for Key Pieces increases Angel Room odds.
"One makes you larger" pills are AWESOME, as are any other size ups, since they increase your club's range.
Chucking him at room entrances lets you backtrack faster for Boss Rush and Hush. You can open spiked and mimic chests for free this way too.
Bombs drop at his rather than your location, which is actually nice for some bosses. Just don't hit the bomb into the soul. You can also drop a bomb mid-throw, or carry the Forgotten to drop it at your location.
Mars lets you move the body, funnily enough. Small tip since it's rare as a Planetarium item, but still, it's a light version of Birthright, and more hilarious.
Algiz, Polaroid, most forms of invincibility work with him, even if it doesn't look like it. With things like the Chariot though you have to carry him if you want to do damage, and even then I'm not sure if it works. I think it does with Soul of Judas.
For Hot Potato, not much to say, it's your average get lucky RNG challenge. I got King Baby, R Key, and then Lil Brimstone on the reset run, so I got pretty lucky there. Remember you can "cook" the bomb so it explodes mid flight.
