And it's not like you're under any pressure to do any of the unlocks asap. Plus, only a small percentage of players actually go for 100% achievements anyways.
Incorrect. The tainted characters follow similar unlock conditions as the main characters, other than a few unlocks being grouped under certain completion marks. I believe that the only exception is that you have to do greedier mode instead of greed mode for an unlock.
Because you are playing on an incredibly less fun (imo) game mode just for the sake of a bunch of co-op babies and like 4 or so actual items, and tainting your character select screen with a bit of red?
I like being challenged, but hard mode makes the game more challenging in incredibly annoying manners (curses every other floor, arbitrarily limiting resource drops, etc.). I consider the alt path added in Repentance to be a proper "hard mode" that is actually challenging in fun ways (tougher enemies and bosses).
Why should I make my playthrough of the game significantly less enjoyable to me just for the sake of a small selection of unlockable items?
EDIT: Also, the vast majority of the criticisms I have seen towards Repentance have been at changes that are exclusive to hard mode. That's all the more reason to not play hard mode and stick with normal mode.
