Probably a few years of regular updates before the devs go and do something else
Updates for 1/2 more years and then you are on your own. Surprise update many years later...? But it's only a couple of fixes and quality of life things.
I think this game will be modded for many years to come.

I mean this game offers tons of content, I don't even think the devs need to do anything anymore but idk hopefully we get some updates

We're most likely gonna get a new boss and a void/delirium rework at some point

A binding of Isaac sequel with Isaac and all other characters as teens.

Oh.. wait.

In all seriousness though, the least I'm expecting is elite repentance bosses to be added (Since Repentance bosses have no variants yet) and maybe a brand new character, similar to how we got one at the end of each expansion. (Inb4 bumbo as the last playable character) After that.. who knows?

There's actually some kind of prototype multiplayer mode that doesn't use remoteplay. Even though it's supposedly unfinished it's very functional from what I have read.

Really hoping they finish that up and add it in an update, as I hate steam remoteplay (You need a very good connection) and I'd do anything for a proper MP mode that's not hyper-reliant on both players internet connection.

It kind of depends on how much money the dev and publisher think they can still wrangle out of the game, and that's a pretty heavy question. I for one wouldn't mind playing a bunch more Isaac, but I'm thinking Isaac is too long in the tooth and top-heavy for the publisher to think it'll sell enough to be worth the time that a major expansion (new game mode, for instance) would take. New players of 2D roguelites are probably at this point departing gaming faster than they're being minted, but I could've made that particular statement at any time in the last oh five years and it would've been just as valid--not very, since I'm totally guessing. Aside from that, this last final boss seems to have actually closed Isaac's story up better than the others. That's not very compelling reasoning on my part given that Isaac's had about four or five "final" bosses at this point and the multiple/vague endings thing is kind of integral to the game, but I really think they're running out of Bible room if nothing else for new material.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got an expansion on the order of another character or two or a swath of new challenges, but I feel like we've seen our last new completion mark, if I can put it that way.

Inb4 Binding of Isaac Hanukkah expansion. Or Buddha. Or maybe something involving ancient Greek gods or Egyptian. I mean we already have an ankh in the game so that's a start.

There's already non-biblical themes in the game. Polyphemus is the only thing that comes to mind right now, but not the only thing. There's also non-christian (the religion Isaac's mother practices) elements in the game, like Lilith. Oh, and one last thing, sometimes the game does this where it grabs things with multiple names and makes separate items, like Abbadon (item in the game) and Apollyon (character in the game), both names used for the same creature.

honestly i don't expect much from the dev team, i mean repentance was a mod pack by other people before they made it an official DLC, i really wanna play Revelations though, they seem to have more features and more levels to play with. However with repentance, i see that it made a lot of mods and mod packs unusable. Thankfully it seems they're gonna make a repentance port, just don't know when.

Regardless, I do see the modding community working hard on keeping this game alive, and i'm excited to see what mods and maps come out this year from the workshop! :D

I'd expect it to just become worse and worse with each DLC, if they do add any more that is. More nerfs to strong items, broken bosses, unfair rooms and common enemies, as well as more player characters that somehow managed to be even worse than Tainted Lost and Jacob & Esau.

Or if we're lucky, the game is done being updated and the devs have moved on to other projects. :praisesun:

And yet that didn't stop you.

Unless you meant for the devs to "git gud" then that still doesn't fix poorly executed bosses like Delirium, unfair enemy and room design, characters straight up not being fun to play and the fact that the game is extremely bloated in terms of items, the majority of which I'd go as far as to say are rather undesirable, forgettable and underwhelming.

"gitting gud" has nothing to do with it.

Why do people do things they claim to hate doing? Most of the time, it's because they're lying.
