The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Donation Machine change is a mistake
Plain and simple. The developers have entirely removed the mechanic of turning bombs into money via the donation machine and made the machine almost entirely pointless for frequent players. This is a terrible change for the game. It nerfs shops even more than they've already been nerfed and removes all kinds of cool interactions with early game money/bomb economy. Revert this change, please.

The minute I see a mod that removes this awful poorly thought out change, it's going to be an instant install for me.

Edit: GOOD NEWS! There's already a knee-jerk reaction mod that removes this awful change while keeping all other changes from this otherwise pretty good patch intact. It's a bit rough around the edges because it was made only hours ago, but I'm sure it and other better mods will fix the issue soon. Do yourself a huge favor and get that Donation Machine mod installed.

Don't fix what isn't broken. And what isn't broken? Your Donation Machine!

What? really? Wtf! This IS a REALLY terrible decission! It was a strategic mechanic. You have 13 gold and there is a great item in the shop, but you only found a bomb in the last room? Then use it. Or you have only one bomb left but need 6 gold? Then take a risk and try to destroy that tinted rock for a double bomb, or find the secret room for more coins or bomb the shop keeper + donation machine and hope for some coins. And when it gets empty, players have to carefully decide if they want to spend money for the donation machine for future runs.

Same here, I almost didn't wanna update my game for this, but i'll just mod my game to deal with it when one comes out for it. It's such a weird unnecessary change and I don't know why more people aren't talking about it either. I don't know which developer keeps having mental breakdowns with the shops every patch (especially in the beginning of repentance), but they really need to chill out.

You guys are clearly overreacting. You still can bomb it for coins once per run and the amount of coins u get from a single bomb has been increased significantly. ~10 coins for free per run is still really good. If you blame a bad run solely to this change, then i have bad news for you.

Who's blaming bad runs on this lol? It's just an awful change that removes a mechanic that's been there for 6+ years.

It's not awful, i would argue that this change made it a lot better. You get a lot more coins from a single bomb.

And if you do that you lose the ability to donate for luck upgrades and angel deal chance. Stupid.

Wow, blowing up the Donation Machine for a meager bonus like that? Oh well, atleast you found yourself a mod already.

How is the ability to get luck upgrades and angel deal chance a "meager bonus"?

Maybe i phrased it poorly. It's a fine bonus, but the chances are meager, which makes it too unreliable. A boost is not guaranteed, even if you use enough coins to jam the Donation Machine.

Extracting coins from the Donation Machine just to put it back in is a bad trade, because you lose bombs and diminish your savings in the Donation Machine, just for 2-4 more tries per bomb to proc an unlikely event.

I see it like LeviKilledXeno'Jiva, the old machine is just too abusable, everyone who messed with a D20 before knows that. This change was long overdue.

Are you sure about the angel chance being a meager chance? As I understand it, a 10 coin donation guarantees an increased angel deal chance over a devil deal. This can be crucial on characters who don't work well with devil deals.

I'm gonna be honest, withdrawing insane amounts of money from the donation machine always felt filthy to me. Some people think it's gone overboard though. Maybe changing it so there's a 20% chance of breaking it when you bomb it would be a fine middle ground.

But you aren't guaranteed to be able to donate 10 coins without jamming. The odds are outright against you doing it a second time.

There is no threshold that guarantees the boost, you can spend even up to 30 coins without getting anything.

1 bomb for 10 coins is a good change for me.
