What items shouldn't you take from a devil room and which items should you get?

Brotherbobby and sister maggy are two obvious ones. What else?

Spin the black circle/black powder is kind of garbage. Good in challenge mode when u can't shoot or if your tears suck but lackluster otherwise.

I just dislike it because it's boring to use imo. It's strong, the I Rule! challenge is a testiment to that, but it's just so boring.

Brimstome (because of the sheer damage it does)

Items you shouldn't get:

Dead cat (while it gives you 9 extra lives, it removes all but one of your heart container, which can make it impossible to beat certain rooms or bosses).

Dead cat is situational. It's not an item you should always take, but if you already have 1-3 red hearts, you might as well take it.

I take any devil item, if I want to get rid of red health. There are no really detrimentally bad ones. If it is the first devil deal, I am much more picky, though. The list provided by the others above me is good.

I skip Mom's knife or Brimstone, if I like my tears better.
I skip Dark Bum as the Lost.

well it really matters by your synergy or what u want to build, your starting item determine what u want for devil rooms, basically need understand of all items available to figure this out. Even item like Abaddon can screw u over it gives damage up but say u had like 6 hearts this tiem will take all them away u just stuck with dark hearts. Then item like Lord of Pit can be useful just for ability to Fly. Matters what early game items u got.

Guppy items are must get u see it GET IT even if it costs soul hearts u want become guppy its insta win.

Brimstone and Mom's Knife are must gets if they are in Devil room, thats me personally.

only item really does that is 9 lives, if u played for long time it shouldn't bother u much, i gotten all 3 guppy's in devil deal it took all my hearts i didnt' care always find more soul hearts from store or marked rocks.

pills give health up, most boss rooms drop hp items high in average

This time I picked it up cuz i had to many hearts. Tis why dark bum is bae. Guppy's collar is the one i picked up

I always take Guppy items if I can. The chance to become Guppy is just too tempting; it practically ensures you win for the rest of the run! All my successful Lost runs were with the Guppy transformation.

One other thing: I actually don't like Lord of the Pit. It's a decent item, but it costs two hearts. I don't understand why. Flight is good, but it isn't worth two hearts (most of the time).

It almost seems as if it was one of those things left over early on and never got changed. It seems useful when you first play the game, and can obviously be pretty useful for hiding on rocks / pits / etc.

But just compared to the vast number of powerful 1-2 heart items already in the pool, it seems awful. Not to mention there are some transformations that do it as well as items (noose/fate). Still, if I'm not flying yet and I have the hearts I'll grab it, but definitely not a priority.
