Plus Microsoft officially dropped XP support. In short this is an os now to use at your own risk.
But the foundation is already there as a part of your game, it's still base game + X, Y and Z
Also, what part of "still woefully using XP" does it say that I'm refusing to upgrade? Believe me, if I could just snap my fingers and have a decent OS I would.
For a developer, you're not a very polite one. I'll make sure not to buy whatever it is you've supposedly made. :^)
I can confirm that Afterbirth still works on XP. They just didn't bother listing it under the requirements.
Just because it works for you, doesn't mean you can confirm it works.
Trying to play the game with less than minimum requirements is a big risk.
I'd advise upgrading your OS. Mainly because XP has a lot of security leaks and such, you can generally get a Win10 key on most keyshops for like 15-20 bucks.
This not only fixes your min. req. issues, but also ensures that you keep your PC safe and up to date.
As for why the expansion differs in min req from the base game.. Well, I reckon it mostly has to do with Microsoft no longer offering support for Win XP. To make a game compatible with multiple OS is enough of a task as is, I can imagine why they wouldn't want to add the support for an "out-of-date" OS, which most people don't use anymore.
Besides that, there's probably also the fact that there's a lot of other features and such in the expansion, which might also be a reason for the non-XP support.
But mainly, I think it has to do with the fact that the game uses a certain Microsoft C++ module to make the game run and since Microsoft doesn't support XP anymore, the C++ modules for XP don't get updated (which loops back to security risks in the software and the likes), which is probably the main reason for upping the min req to Win7.
Hope this might clear it up. :)
