If you have to compare something that is happening to things that happen on Japanese gameshows, I think I might go as far as to say it's not a 'good thing.'

I'm pretty sure if you asked most people to list all the things they don't want to happen to them that happen to people on Japanese gameshows, they would probably hand you quite a long list.

To be fair, it was a pretty far-fetched analogy to begin with.
how is a blurry image giving peole a headache? what would you do if you looked at an out of focus picture then? i hate vertigo and it doesnt bother me and my friend has motion sickness vertigo and other things of the like and she hasnt complained about it... AND if pixelation bothers you so much then why has no one ever complained about the transfer between floors which is the same effect essentialy.. just really confused about this

slapping machine, that's my favorite thing they have on japanese gameshows.

I assume the difference is the end floor pixelation is of an almost exclusively static image, the pixellation combined with a moving image is exponentially worse.

ah-ha, yeah that could do it, the parallax scrolling can be naughty, i was wondering what about pixelation gives people headaches too, it would be more or less motion sickness symptom then?

I get motion sick very easily with FPS games, but the pixelvision doesnt affect me. I think it's a pretty funny pill effect (like wizrad), but feel bad for the people it actually gives headaches to.

Not necessarily, the thing about headaches/migraines and their triggers is they can vary immensely from person to person. Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with motion sickness, some things are just headache triggers for some people. Visual triggers especially can vary wildly.

The analogy to someone putting a scarf around your eyes? Taking the pills is completely YOUR choice. It's a gamble. Think of it as a temporary curse of darkness. But that analogy is completely out of place. It's a temporary negative effect that obscures vision. Plenty of games have this.

a) It's not YOUR choice to gamble with the Retro Vision before you know it's there. It's a jerk move. After you know it's there, yes, it's your choice. And the result, honestly, I take pills even less often than I was taking them before because of it. Of course, I wasn't taking them that often to begin with because of R U a Wizard.
b) Just because other games have it doesn't make it good or fun. If you like it, great.
I don't. I wish they'd get rid of it, but they won't, so there you go.

It's absolutely your choice to gamble. That's the key wording. You choose if you want to take a pill or not, knowing the effect it could have.

Also, it isn't there to be fun. I think RUAW is a complete pain. But in a game as heavily dependent on RNG as this is, there are going to be some things that just suck, to balance everything out. There are plenty of useless items, too, but those absolutely shouldn't be removed.

Why are you still here? Your arguments just show you don't have any understanding why people dislike Retro Vision. It isn't because its a bad pill or makes the game harder, its the WAY that it does it. Its completely stupid and lazy. It just blows pixels up to absurd sizes that becomes irritating to the eye. In literally ANY other game, such a visual would immediately be deemed as a graphical issue. Why? Because for one, it looks horrible. But not only that, but because as previously stated, its literally an eye sore. It irritates one of the player's five senses. This is practically never okay in a game. A player shouldn't experience discomfort for playing a game unless for what ever reason, its literally designed to do so. Which Binding of Isaac is NOT designed around doing.

There is ZERO excuse for this pill to exist. Zero, none, nada. There is literally nothing else in this game for you to try and compare it to, to justify its existance. Because nothing else in this game punishes you by blowing pixels up to irritating sizes and fuzziness.

Playing video games alone is already bad for your eyes, this is comman knowledge. Staring at practically any screen with out a form of protection for your eyes is bad. We all know this and its just how things are. This pill actually makes it even worse for you to look at the screen. Even if you aren't experiencing discomfort, your eyes are literally still being harmed by this effect. You do realize this, right?

Why do you insist on defending this pill? Literally give a reason, because right now you don't give the impression of having a good one. If you're unable to give a practical reason as to why Retro Vision is justified, then you should stop posting in this topic.
of all the things to complain about in this game

pixel vision is what gets 7 pages? Who cares. You people need to get your priorities straight

this is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid

This is blatantly untrue. It can be jarring on a cognitive level, but all your eyes do is receive light. Whether they're big squares or soft, round circles makes no difference.

Different shapes feel better to look at to different people, but this is a matter of psychology- It has nothing to do with what eyes do, so no, your eyes are not "literally being harmed by this effect."

If you experience discomfort from this effect (And many people do), then that would be a different issue. If you've been paying attention to my involvement in this thread (Which you seem rather personally invested in my posts), then you would see that I am siding with people that experience discomfort, headaches, etc. That's never fun, but I'm not going to say that this pill, or a pill like it, is just "stupid and lazy."

Pixelization is a retro effect, based on the handheld Zelda games. It's used for screen transitions. Is it "lazy" there, too? Or is your core complaint that it's artificial difficulty? Cause if so, maybe there's a discussion, but you just keep repeating the words "stupid and lazy," while discrediting and attacking people that don't agree with you. Your original post was literally just "it's honestly just stupid." There is no conversation there. There is no argument. And that's the precise reason I'm still posting here.

If your issue is discomfort, then perhaps there's an alternative effect that would feel better to you that would fit the same purpose? Cause I'm arguing against the idea that this doesn't belong in the game.
