I mean, seriously, they're either REALLY irritating or REALLY tedious. I"m not even going to try to explain what I think of that "SPEED!!!11" one in particular.
I did ONE challenge, the stupid XXXXXXL one, to completion, took absolutely forever and.... I'm tired of the whole thing. Particularly after then messing around with some of the others. I did all of the original 20 challenges and hated the whole process. So screw these new ones. Either I'll cheat the damn things into unlocking (which I normally never, EVER do in any game, but these are THAT damn irritating), or I'll just do what I did with The Lost and pretend that they, and their items, dont exist. And I hate having to do either.
Though, I'm enjoying the rest of the expansion so much that this is actually kind of a minor complaint in comparison.
The speed challenge was really REALLY time consuming considering all the resets I had to go through but eventually I found moms knife and made it through.. I just really don't know how anybody can use bobs brain and get to the blue baby in the chest and beat him, it's close to impossible.
Without doing the challenges though you can't get all the items or achievements in the game which is bugging me something fierce, but alas i guess I'll just keep trying unless somebody comes up with a full proof plan on how to do the challenge properly.
Also with it being the ONLY challenge I need to complete to be done with all of them for good is really frustrating... ugh... guess I'll go try again...
ლ(>▂<ლ)
With a bit of practice, aiming them will get a lot easier, and then it's just a matter of patience to hold it together long enough to complete the challenge. Honestly, my winning run took me nearly an hour...
They don't call them "challenges" for nothing. lol
Yeah, I normally dont ignore these sorts of things myself, but my problem with them is that some of the challenges seem HEAVILY dependent on pure RNG in order to win. That speed one for instance; you *have* to get lucky with items, floor layouts, specific rooms not appearing (too many "walking hosts" rooms can shut you down, and similar things), finding enough damage to kill things REALLY FREAKING FAST, not getting too many bosses that are tanky (like Gurdy), and... really, I dont know who the heck thought it was a good idea.
I'm fine with a game having a high level of challenge, or even an extreme level of challenge. I'm used to not just roguelikes but things like bullet-hell games of all types, so I'm no stranger to that. But the moment a game like this can cause a loss via pure RNG (as in, a situation that literally cant be overcome by sheer skill) is the moment I start hating things. And I never liked the challenges to begin with.
....and a couple of the challenges are just so absurdly tedious that I just dont have the undying patience to put up with them. So screw it. I did the first 20, the rest can go jump into a volcano. Not having the items from them indeed is sucky... but not enough to warrant tolerating the challenges. The achievements I couldnt care less about.
Considering the brains, unless you do find some familars (Which you may want, most noteably Demon Baby or lil brimstone) are the only firepower you'll have for the most part, It's a good idea to get all sorts of cards and runes to just skip ahead alot, emporer cards or passage runes, devil deals dont serve too much help except for the mentioned demon baby, lil brimstone and maybe even rotten baby. if you get some lucky drops, the challenge is a breeze, at least it was to me. I was a little surprised that I had to go through the chest, but emporer cards do the trick, the rest of the challenge takes patience. I honostly liked this challenge, more than most of the other new ones, because they were ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but this took actual skill from you as a player.
Good luck man :D
They are quite common scenarios I think
The main problem with this challenge is the game design, 3 brains that take forever to recharge is tedious, boring an totally unfair on some rooms AND you are given a snail speed to start with...
On one of those attempts I had blank card + hierophant but still lost, on the other I had blue candle + lil brim and lost again. The main reason was the lack of mobility which leads to unavoidable hits.
Here are the items I had when I succeeded the challenge: Lord of the pit, bffs, the mind (and a blank card with nothing except a joker but it was irrelevant).
The speed and flight were game changing, it is so much fair with them I wonder why you don't get it in the fist place instead on relying on rng.
Bffs and the mind are very good addition too for survivability.
I've also seen some streamers do it with orbitals (cube of meat, sac dagger) which are a huge help against boss fights especially the later ones. And dealing with spiders looked so much easier.
tl;dr : get some speed + flight and/or a good orbital, focus on health and mapping. Don't loose your mind when waiting the brains to reappear.
Yeah, I'm pretty much just after the items. I've never been one to care about achievements (I just ignore them at all times... never cared, never will) or 100% of whatever. I just want to be able to enable all (or most) of the gameplay mechanics/elements, and then get some fun and non-irritating (as in, not luck-based or tedious) challenge out of it. Pretty much the same way I approach any game. I just ignore anything I havent the patience for. But in this case, they locked gameplay elements behind those things, so.... ugh. Much as I love the game as a whole, I've always kinda disliked that aspect of it.
I confess I'm fully stuck on Brains! though. On the others, I usually die on one of the lower floors, on this one, I feel like I can barely survive Catacombs. Fsck those 4 wall spiders that spit a spread of 3 shots to cover the whole fscking room.
