And I wouldn't know, Zozo, as I never have the filter on. Monitor size may be a factor here, too.
There are some gameplay elements that can only be created by using sight blocking elements though, heavy motion blur/depth of field etc. could be used in a fast paced first person shooter to emphasise on covering fire as a gameplay element, causing you to actually be suppressed as you are unable to accurately aim etc.
And Retro Vision isn't one of them. Its a lazy and harmful effect in the game.
