Questions about The babies and Coop

I got two questions that connect to each other in one way. First question is, why are there so many babies? theres one unlocked for each character and sometimes more. What are there purposes as i have never found them before in game. Second, how does coop work? I know theres a seed and ive used it but how would you get it to work? Does the second person control one of those babies?

The second player does control one of these babies.
Most of the babies are just reskins, but there are a select few with small buffs/debuffs i.e homing tears.

you need a second controller plugged in as its local only, then during gameplay the second player presses start on their controller, they will then steal one of your heart containers and appear as a random baby.

Actually, up to 3 other players can join as coop babys, if you have enough controllers, and hearts for all of them.
I´d recommed Maggy for a jolly coop run, because you can heal with the yum heart if your fellow players die.

I hope they find a way to make some kind of multiplayer with new expansion. Local coop with this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of babies is really not a thing.
