Familiars appearing with one of my hearts??
When I play the game sometimes just randomly a Familiar or Buddy will appear, it will have one heart and I will have one less. Enemies seem to attack it and once it dies I get back the empty heart container. I have never seen this in anyone elses game and I haven't found a single thread or anything that can tell me why this happens and what on earth its purpose is.

Do you have 2 controllers plugged in?
SLima Dec 13, 2015 @ 5:13pm
That is a coop baby. You probably have a controller connected nearby and it is activating the coop feature. To activate coop you just need a controller connected and the other player just needs to press start. He will play as a random coop baby and will take one of your heart containers or soul/black hearts.

As I said, 2 controllers might be causing the problem. If you use the keyboard and you press on start on any plugged in controller, a coop baby will appear.

Oh wow, okay, I have a USB controller + my keyboard, so that's probably what it is

if anyone's having this issue with only one controller plugged in and the coop baby isn't responding to neither the controller nor the keyboard you're probably using a controller emulator like inputmapper.
just unplug your controller and restart the application, plug in the controller again and you should be good.

this has happened to me a few times and sometimes you only have to either unplug or restart the application but there have been times where i had to unplug it before restarting inputmapper for it to help

you can even check if this is the issue by opening up "windows controllers"
there's a shortcut to it in inputmapper under the drop down menu "tools", you'll find "windows controllers" at the top
and if you've got more controllers in that menu than you got plugged in, thats the issue

Well... I guess, who's using inputmapper, if PS3, PS4, XBOX360 and XBONE controllers are supported?

i was, just because i didn't know better, but now i do so oh well

i'm using inputmapper. since most games don't have support for a ps4 controller i'm always using it by default. it also lets me rebind the restart button to my controller which saves some time.

and there are other controllers than the usual console controllers

yeah, that's true. but when I try to use it, two controllers are plugged in at the same time (inputmapper virtual controller and the physical ds4), and the game doesn't know hich one I press.

yea thats exactly what i was talking about, just unplug your controller, close down inputmapper. start up inputmapper again and plug in the controller, in that order. that should remove the regular controller and replace it with the newly emulated one.
this helps when inputmapper glitches out on my end at least.
it should disconnect the original controller when it connects the emulated controller even if you do it the other way around, and it does most of the time, but every now and then this happens.
if this doesn't work try rebooting your pc with the controller unplugged, start the app and then plug it in. i doubt you'd have to reboot and all that, i've never had to but i guess in a worst case scenario things could lock up and need a reboot.

open up windows controllers under the tools drop down menu in inputmapper, there you can see when plugging in a controller if it disconnects the physical controller and connects the emulated one. if both controllers are connected you need take the steps mentioned above.
or at least thats what solves this issue on my end.
