The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Oh Repentance does ruin the game
I had fun with this for about... 3 rooms? Then I realized every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shot was going twice as fast. What the ♥♥♥♥ is this? This isn't a cool or fun change. The game is already challenging. I don't need every enemy to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shoot twice as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fast. That's just annoying as ♥♥♥♥. Refunded that trash. ♥♥♥♥ they ruined this game so bad over the years.

You can get used to enemy shot speed really quick, and there are plenty of quality-of-life improvements brought by Repentance that outweigh this downside.
Consider giving Repentance another chance.
Or not, it's your money.

I actually got the sense that you could, but it's more of a general principal at this point. Like just stop making the game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ harder and MORE FRUSTRATING all that time. It's UNNECESSARY for them to go that fast. It's stupid. It's poor game design. People who go good at isaac over 100s of hours are good because they put in over 100s of hours. Just let people be good at the game. All the health sponge enemies are boring too. That's the problem. It's not fun anymore. It's hard, frustrating and boring.

Don't play on hard mode if you can't handle it, it's called hard mode for a reason.

That's just the Repentance hard-mode - actually more difficult. W/o Repentance, hard-mode does practically nothing. More champions? Trivial or even beneficial (potentially more keys/bombs). Less red-hearts? Meaningless, if 99% of your runs only have soul/black hearts That's also different in Repentance - red-heart containers are more valuable because less Soul Hearts, but red-heart pickups are more common in general. Repentance hard-mode also nerfs soul-heart drops.
Room layouts in general are a lot harder too overall, especially when doing the alt-path.

Should've stuck to normal-mode, where none of that's an issue, until you've gotten used to all the Repentance mechanics and changes, like Angel Rooms being actually good (and often the more consistent option).

this game is meant to be hard... it's actually a lot more fair than some other notorious hard games like super meat boy, dark souls, and cuphead

I don't think you know what the word fair means. There's plenty of rooms that can have unavoidable damage in Isaac, however all the games you listed are consistent. There's no RNG in them so fairness doesn't even come into play because there will never be a scenario of unavoidable death in any of them.

I like Isaac but I'm not gonna lie about it.

Now Hard mode is very different from Normal mode and lives up to its name, which is good. Adapt.

I stopped playing for a while before repentance came out, and just as then, I never really noticed this change. I feel like you have some recency bias, and in time it'll just fade. Honestly it feels fine.

i mean yea unavoidable damage exists but you can mitigate it to a large extent. There's a reason top level isaac players can win 99/100 hard mode runs

Dude you have over 1000 hours in this game. How can you not want a difficulty increase at this point. :benny: At this point in the game you just need to get good. :thefarmer:

As an isaac veteran(flash days), repentance isnt that bad. Although even after getting really good at the game, the alt paths still give me a ton of trouble, especially those yellow flies in downpour that move around you and shoot you.

I bet this guy plays games on "story mode" all the time and apparently hates that Isaac does not have one.
