Binding of Isaac: Repentance loading as Afterbirth+

I have BOI: Repentance, but when I try to run the game after downloading/installing it, the game loads as Afterbirth+ instead. How do I resolve this?

Sounds like you're running the game with expansions installed (up to and including Afterbirth+).

What's the issue exactly? Are you asking how to play the base game only (no expansion)? Why would you want to play a downgraded version? I'm genuinely confused.

I am trying to play Repentance, which is the latest version of the game. I purchased it some time back and had played up until I had some recent issues that forced me to uninstall/reinstall Steam as well as delete all the games I had installed on my machine.

Steam shows the game as Rebirth, but when I install the game and attempt to play it, it comes up as Afterbirth+ instead of Repentance. At first, I thought I had lost a lot of game data, but then I saw what version I was playing.

I even double-checked my DLC and it shows that Repentance is purchased.

UPDATE:

I uninstalled the game, went to the DLC tab, then selected Play Now on Repentance. This did not resolve the issue.

That part is normal. Steam only lists base games in the game library.

Are you on Linux or MacOS? There's no official support for Repentance on either of those.

If you're on Linux, use Proton.

If you're on Mac, I'll just quote someone who clearly knows better than me:

That's what it was. As soon as I turned on Proton in the settings for the game, I got into Repentance. I was not aware that Proton was required to get it going on Linux. I guess I had simply forgotten that I had turned it on in the beginning.
