Game refuses to boot up

Howdy! I've been facing a huge problem recently. No matter what I do, the game will refuse to boot. It opens, gets stuck before the title screen, and crashes instantly. I've installed and uninstalled the game, removed every mod, verified files, and even uninstalled and reinstalled Steam. Nothing is working. Nobody has been listening.

Edit: I'm using Repentance.

Go to

C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance

and delete the file "options.ini". If that didn't help, there's also a log.txt in the same folder, which might hint at what's causing the crash if you open it in a text-editor.

Also, do you got more infos, like system specs and especially your operating system?

When I go to that folder, there's nothing inside of it. As for an operating system and specs, I'm running on Windows 11 with an AMD Ryzen 3 5300g processor and a Radeon Rx 5500 graphics card

The files should be there, if you've played the game in the past. Unless you've re-formatted your drive or gotten a new computer since the last time, you've played.

Next thing, i'd try is to right-click this game in your Steam-Library --> "Properties..." --> "DLC" and make sure all 3 DLC (AB, AB+ and Rep) listed are marked as active. Activate any, that are missing a checkmark.

Where do I search for these things? In my computers files? (I've been having the same problem and I'm also on repentance. I have 67 hours on the game and it's never happened before)

Yeah, it's just a directory on your main system drive.

For convenience, you can also just copy the following address

C:\Users\%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance

and paste it into the address bar of the file-explorer in Windows (the folder icon) and hit ENTER to instantly open the folder.

Where do I search for these things? In my computers files? (I've been having the same problem and I'm also on repentance. I have 67 hours on the game and it's never happened before)

Forgot to update, I figured it out. If you have REPENTOGON downloaded, the auto updater completely breaks the game. You have to uninstall and reinstall it if you want to keep it, or uninstall it fully to remove it.

Does anybody have any clue what to do if I don't have Repentance and am having the same issue? I've got 644 hours in this game, and for some reason, it suddenly refuses to boot, just as previously described. Thanks in advance.

i went through a bunch of files and i cant find it. what is the name of the file and where can it be found. please i havent played the binding of isaac for 5 days

As soon as you open up "Browse Local Files", it'll be on the main page you opened. Look for "REPENTOGONUPDATER.exe".

If it's not there, try to re-install Repentogon from the website

i guess my game is just fked because that didnt work.

I found that the file lua5.3.3r.dll is missing. Downloaded it off of a website, put it in next to the .exe and it fixed it.

Late as ♥♥♥♥ but I just unchecked the Repentance DLC in the game files and it works flawlessly now.
