Online Co-Op unlockables?

I couldn't find an answer for this so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone knew.

Is the online co-op planned to have synced unlockables? For example, if I used a new save file, and played with a friend who has never played before, will he unlock stuff on his save while we play? Or is it only the host?

When the beta was active individual players could unlock their own secrets on their own file.
The beta would also make sure to play the file of the person who had the least unlocks.

However, because of how the beta was handled any progress made in the co-op beta was not backwards compatible with the stable release.
