The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Buy Repentance or go with AB+ for now
I am playing TBOI with AB+ since March. I've played around 40 hours and unlocked Satan and Isaac bosses for now. I like the game very much and I am thinking whether I should buy Repentance now or later. It seems like I still have a lot things I can unlock in AB+ and can buy Repentance later, but maybe It's better to move to Repentance now. Please, share your thoughts.

UPD: additional question, can I easily interchange between both AB+ and Repentance? Like things I've got in Repentance can be imported to AB+.

For example, suppose I've killed Mega-Satan in Repentance and got some achievement and item added to the pull. Would I be able to see this item in AB+ version of the game?

Repentance changes, balances, and adds a lot of things, so the sooner you can get used to them the better. It also doubles the amount of characters available in Afterbirth+.

Repentance builds off of and requires afterbirth and ab+ (and rebirth of course). Things from afterbirth are carried over to Repentance, however things from repentance cannot be brought over to Afterbirth. Going from Repentance to Afterbirth+ is essentially a downgrade.

In your example, if you were to kill Mega Satan as Isaac or another character available in afterbirth+, I believe you should be able to keep the item if you downgrade.

However, if you kill him as Bethany or some other repentance character, the item will most likely not transfer over.

I've personally never messed with downgrading versions though, so my educated guesses may not be accurate to what happens.

Also, there's a new Online Co-op feature coming (in about a year or so until official release) that will be Repentance only. Not sure if you care about it, but it's there.

If you're that invested in the game, the sooner you buy Repentance the better

Waiting to buy it later will backfire when you are struck by the content wave

imo it would be better if you bought both, since you would have all of the game content available and well, steam sale haha

Content wave would be that huge to overwhelm?

Reason of why I am thinking about Repentabce and want to downgrade sometimes because AB+ in my current runs seem easy and I think it is good to have overpowered chill runs time to time. If I can switch between versions, then that's great.

i think repentance genuinely just makes the game much more enjoyable, had a hard time getting into the game but loved it immediately when i gave the dlc a try

Incorrect. At least, not until you do some extra steps (either the achievement command on AB+, or using alt+F2 in the stats menu - which has its own downsides).
Note that anything unlocked while downgrading will not be ported to your Repentance save once you install it back either. That's just not how the game manages its saves.

But if you just want OP runs for fun, the debug console is your friend, even on Repentance.

Hm, so it is full repentance for me now. Nonetheless, I am not bothered and REP seem like huge addition that even require more space. Also, menu theme is perfect , easily the best version of the song. Already saw new monster in the basement. Overall, I am loving it

Still it would have been great to have AB+ and REP launch options.
