I don't know why I like it either, it's just fun.
I don't have a problem with the controls, or the graphics, or the aim, or the music.
Controls were ♥♥♥♥, inertia on high speed was stupid and the fact that death meant having to restart was horrible.
But, as the time went on and I gave it couple more tries, I started to enjoy it. Game brings realistic challenge. What I mean by that is, achievements are actually doable, you don't have to put in 3000 hours to get every single one (like get 1 Bijillion kills and stuff like that, shooter games have). Also, every type of player can be satisfied with all the different combinations of items and RNG. Some runs are over powered, while some being straight up ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (kind of like playing CS:GO with knife only, which does 10 points of damage at max), so it's eanjoyable for players who like getting strong and oneshotting everything as well as ones who love hard fought victory.
So, yeah... Binding of Isaac has some good stuff going for it.
I do not mean the bind for moving the chac......... that's pretty understable.
What exactly constitute something as being overrated? Mass popularity? Diehard fans? What exactly is the criteria for that label, since anything can be dubbed as such.
I love shmups which you could consider this game does fall under (ala Super Smash TV), so I'm biased.
Edit: I will admit though, convenience may play a roll.
