"Void" and "Smelter"
Hello there.

Two Afterbirth+ items go revealed recently. Which ones? Read this thread's title. :P

Their effects:

Void (charge 4):
Destroys any item in the current room. Then, acts like this:
- Spacebar items: Void gains their effect. They all stack together, on top of Void's effect itself. Prepare yourself to get a mega-spacebar item!
- Passive items: grants a random stat up.
- Pickups (coins, bombs, and so on): destroyed as well, turn into blue flies.
Reminder: Apollyon (new character) starts with this item.

Smelter (charge 6):
Destroys any trinket in the current room you are carrying (small edit, missed those few words). Player gets these trinkets' effects permanently.
Will be a store item.

Opinions?

Personal opinion:
Interesting items. Can lead to great synergies and interesting setups in my opinion. Wait and see.

I find both items to be very situational, but very interesting indeed.

Here's a question: for Void, since you're destroying the passive items instead of picking them up, does that mean those items can show up multiple times a run?

That would be strange to see them a second time and not considered picked up or literally destroyed, but great to get your build together if necessary

What I really want to know is that if there will be an order of execution of the capacities you stacked
Phaper Jul 27, 2016 @ 9:18am
That woul be interesting.

I'm also curious if multiple instances of the same spacebar item stack.

Also.

Void + Glowing Hourglass might be the new Blank Card + Jera.

Calling it now - using the Smelter when you have the Tick is gonna make you unable to pick up pedestal items.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the case that passive items get removed from the pool once you lay your eyes on them?

What if you used Void with Mega Blast, would it still be a 4 room charge?

Void (charge 4):

HP Up items finally have a use

But for passive stats, yeah, best combo

Not true.

I once got PhD is the first floor shop item and the first floor Treasure Room item.

Void is going to have a stack.

Otherwise, what happens if you Void the D6?

How things stack will have to be VERY carefully considered, otherwise OP as well.

Still calling Void+Glowing Hourglass as stupid OP.

Use it in a library.

'Oh look, now I have the effects of Satanic Bible, The Bible, Book of Shadows, and Book of Revelations. And I can gain all their effects, again, every four rooms.'

At that point, you could get to 'generate 3 spirit hearts and three black hearts every four rooms' pretty easily.

Oh, and Glowing Hourglass as a syngery would also allow for 'nuke a Bloody Penny + Blood Bank room every four rooms'.

Well, it's almost true actually.
You can't see the same item twice from the same item pool. If an item exists in at least two item pools (for instance, PHD is in both the treasure and shop pools), then you can see it twice. ;-)

Ah yes, I should have mentioned an example like that. Steam Sale springs to mind too: Get Steam Sale in store, let it there, hunt for secret room and hope for Greed to drop a second one. In fact, I remember watching, quite recently, a youtuber trying that. Might've been Hutts.

I don't think that's true, either.

I'm pretty sure fighting the Sins multiple times can give you the same drop multiple times (like Bob's Rotten Head or Steam Sale). I think the Sin item pools are the only exception to that, though.

You can (at least in Rebirth) see an item in the Shop multiple times if you haven't picked it up as well.

There isn't any "sin item pool" actually. It's more like "spawn this item no matter what if [condition]". :P
