The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I HATE the Athame change.
Why do this? This isn't a nerf or buff, this is removing an item from the game completely, so you can add in a different item with the same name and graphic. I get that this is a lot less work than actually creating a new item, but why do this at all? Was there some great need for this new item? I don't think so.

I liked Athame as it was, and now that item no longer exists. The other item reworks that came with this patch still kept the original intention of the item. The Athame change does not.

personally i hated the old one. if there wasnt something near you it did nothing.
(and how often do you take contact damage anyways)
now you kill an enemy and everything near it gets hit. that seems a lot more useful to me.
although if you really dont like it im sure somebody will make a mod to bring the old one back anyways

wow really I've been using it this run and couldn't disagree more it's way better now even possibly too good?

The problem is the fact that it's a completely different item, and the old item no longer exists. I would be fine with them adding a new item, but why replace an item completely?

That moment when:
Item rework on DLC Release = no mad bois
Item rework on Update = mad bois.

Really bruh?

The old item wasn't any good...

I don't get it, how is it "completely different item"? You still get black circles of death but in a different way, making this item not just a worse version of Maw of The Void

By that logic you should also complain about other changes in this patch like Breath of Life, Betrayal, My Shadow. Their mechanics changed a lot, especially for Betrayal

yes, that's what is called a 'rework'

The old item was way too situational and not that useful (15% chance for black heart when killing with it was nice, but with activating the item requiring damage it's quite niche in characters who'd benefit from its playstyle outside of cheesing enemies like Envy or Fistula) unless you're Tainted Maggy

Now the item is quite powerful and honestly? It feels like it can carry a run, going for devil deals feels so much more satisfying with all of the reworked items. I've had runs where I get Athame proc after Athame proc and it creates a dominoes effect across the whole room, it's now something that I want to take instead of ignoring and it's usable on all characters compared to the super niche item it was before. I don't think Tainted Maggy is hit that hard by the rework either as there's still plenty of items that work well with her hugging mechanic

So people are really okay with them just completely removing items from the game now? You'd rather they do this than make a new item? That's what I'm hearing.

The old Athame was far from useless, but like I said, this isn't about the new version being better or worse, it's about them removing a perfectly good item (which it was) to replace it with a new one instead of just making a new item.

Although I thought old Betrayal was garbage, I would still rather they had made the new one a new item. Breath of Life OTOH still works the same, just better.

I honestly can't remember what My Shadow did. I never take it.

If it was a ♥♥♥♥ item, yes. More chances to find a good item

As you can already see, a lot of players think it wasn't good, that's why all of them disagree with you (including me)

Yes, I would rather they rework useless items into something that is actually useful, rather than bloating the item pool even further. We have enough items in isaac, the problem is that a big portion of them are bad/useless...
