How do i get mods to work

Im dumb so i need someone to tell me like step by step how to make it so mods work

Ok, so here we go:

-~-open the steam workshop: either go on community>workshop>the binding of isaac: rebirth or just search "steam workshop" on google

~-~try to find a mod you like. You can also find showcases on youtube.

---click on it, and press "subscribe".

~~~it should be downloaded. To disable mods, on the main menu of the game select "mods" and press tab.


if you are using an external source (like moddingofisaac.com), you will need to place the mod in the game's mods folder ( to find it easily, go to you steam library, click on the gear above the discussions tab, manage>browse local files. The mods folder should be there. If you have any other questions try asking on the r/themoddingofisaac subreddit.

also you cant get unlocks while mods are active if you have not beaten mom yet

Important: the workshop is for the Afterbirth+ and Repentance expansions only. If you don't have these expansions, you can't use workshop mods at all.

YOU NEED AFTERBIRTH+ FOR MODS, YOU ALSO NEED MOM DEFEATED FOR THIS TO WORK

basic instructions:
beat mom once on the save file, go to steam workshop, add the mods you want, hit the mod button when you are propmted to either start a new game or go to the game options.

STILL NOT WORKING:
if you have ab+ and its still not working create a folder in this path if it isnt there already

C:\Users\[NAME]\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ Mods

still not working? ok. uninstall isaac, delete its steam folder (back up your files if you do this .you will lose your progress.)

how to back up the save files:
Repentance, AB+ and AB create backups automatically there:
C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance
C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+
C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Afterbirth

If you want to do it manually anyway, actual saves are located there:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[some number]\250900\remote

then in reinstall isaac and check if that folder was made in the "Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ Mods"


if its still not working then you might not have ab+ installed

When it says [NAME] in the file path, what am I supposed to put there

Check the mod you are trying to use. Some of them require repentagoon. It's a 3rd party launcher for the game.
