That's because debug console was made to test mods.
b) A long time ago, I found a Cheat Engine table (I enjoy the technical side of programs) for the game that made it possible to spawn any item I wanted (or to be more precise, get the item I wanted when touching a pedestal). No idea where I found it back then though, on which version it was precisely, or if it would work on your current version of the game.
CE can definitely freeze your health though, working as any CE cheat. Any tutorial about freezing memory values should do the trick. About "spawning items", I don't think you can do that while in-game. However, you could create a simple, custom mod for AB which edits your starting items. To change them, you'd have to close the game, make the edits, and launch the game again. That's the main downside. Requires a file unpacker ("Rick's Unpacker", typically), a text editor (Notepad++, Geany, whatever), and basic understanding of how the game reads its files. I could go into more details about that "AB mod option", but later and only if you ask for (got something to do right now).
Edit:
Thinking about it, I don't know if having a Mac (instead of Windows) could prevent some parts of this "process"...

To anyone about to comment "boo cheats me report you".
- Cheats are possible in this game and easy to do. Nothing can stop it, ever. Deal with it.
- It is a singleplayer game with no relevant online functionalities, no harm can be done to others whatsoever, it can't affect your own experience.
- I understand "cheats" are a taboo on Steam forums. But since they can't be prevented, I prefer to explain how to do it properly instead of relying on shady sites that could have malicious intents. Seems to me like the most responsible way to deal with this, especially considering the second part of this list.
Have a nice day.
I don't understand the point of this mode to be honest, I don't feel the need to compare my virtual skills to anyone, I can enjoy a game without that. So cheating for this meaningless "fame" is beyond my understanding.
Anyway, my point is you can't interact directly with any other player in this game, there's no online mode. Besides these (quite pointless) numbers, you can't ruin any other player's fun by cheating in this single-player game.
You're free to disagree.
balls of steel also exists
reminder that you basically are put into a speedrun challenge with "speed!", as well as other game mechanics relying on the game timer are also present
so if cheating at balls of steel is okay we should let all cheating be okay too
To my knowledge, "balls of steel" is a pill effect in this game. Nothing else. Don't expect people to read your mind.
About the "timer related mechanics", again, purely single-player. Doesn't affect you.
you're false-justifying people to cheat-- but you don't even know how to actually use the debug menu concerning you can't even spawn an item pedestal for yourself or know how to use the "giveitem" command that's right built into the AB+ debug console, so you're obviously the most mechanically sound player
you're opening pandoras box to even respond positively to this thread
you can't just backwardsass the "oh but it's singleplayer!!!" argument and then say "speedrun cheating is bad", it's a two-sided coin, there's no compromise to it
casual players is not a label or an excuse, a casual player can 100% this game with enough time put into it, you don't need to be some kind of expert to get all the unlocks in isaac
"i don't need to prove it to you" is one of the most insecure statements i hear all the time, good job telling us indirectly that you're bad at this game
quit being such a cuck and put your foot down, either go full blatant or be legit
I just point out where you seem to misunderstand my posts (willingly or not). I gave my opinion, you don't have to agree with it, I don't really care.
This thread is about AB, not AB+ (read OP's post carefully). The console doesn't exist in this version, and I never talked about spawing pedestals. Read my post again.
OP asked a precise question, I replied as precisely as I could. That's the point of the forum.
Not your concern, but thanks for it anyway.
When you start considering a singleplayer game as a way to practice speedrunning, it becomes a multiplayer one (and only if you practice speedrunning).
Again, I only accept cheating in a pure singleplayer experience, I reject it entirely as soon as it becomes a multiplayer one.
I know that. How does that mean we have to prevent people from playing the way they want? It's their problem, neither yours nor mine.
Actually, I consider people who somehow have to prove they're better than others as insecure, seems to me they're just trying to convince themselves ("I'm better than this guy, i'm not worthless" kind of thing). We seem to disagree on that. Whatever.
I just don't understand how preventing players from enjoying a game the way they want without harming anyone else could be a good thing.
If they want to cheat, they can and will one way or another, whether you like it or not. And as long as they keep it to singleplayer, you'll never notice it nor should care about it.
If they cheat in any way that could actually harm other players' game experience, it's their problem, they'll be fully responsible. They're the ones choosing if and when they cheat.
If they ruin their own experience or others', it's their problem. They could always decide to start over once they feel more comfortable with the game.
Overall, I understand your opinion. I just disagree, but you're free to have your own.
Regards.
For your own good I'd like to inform you that Nazemec is in fact one of the most active community members, knows modding to a fair extent and has quite the play time in this game, as well as completion.
I know I said that this is hilarious, but honestly it's just sad.
Just the beauty of the Internet. It's an acquired taste. :P
I think it's sadder for OP though. I don't think they expected their thread to become... this. Unfortunate.
My original offer ("basics into Rebirth/Afterbirth modding: editing starting items") is still open by the way. Just a reminder, if OP didn't flee in terror already I mean. :P
Thanks all of you for trying to help me in this. For the people worried about Leaderboards: I've been playing TBOI for about a year now and I beat Mom yesterday ( In a run in which I got Brimstone in the first devil deal, mind you) . I don't think any of you are in danger of being overthrown by me. besides; I'm not very interested in Challenges.
"My original offer ("basics into Rebirth/Afterbirth modding: editing starting items") is still open by the way. Just a reminder, if OP didn't flee in terror already I mean. :P"
(idk how to quote that like y'all did)
I'll definitly check that out tho. Thank you.
If that's enough for you, well, you're welcome. :P
