I will post it below again just so its here in this post.
The battle against Satan has three distinct phases.
What I like to do is that I try to be diagonal to "The Fallen" (also after it splits into two).
That way the brimstones don't clip you as easily.
Phase two, I also tend to be either on the top-right of the room, or in one of the lower corners of the room. If you hug the wall, it should be easier to dodge the shotguns (the circle-spreading tears) and as long as you're above him he won't brimstone you.
In the third phase I basically just run around in circles. Gotta be careful that the exploding leeches don't kill you, but by constantly moving around you can easily dodge the hoofs stomping down on you.
Hope that helps.
Many of the bosses are much easier if you have high Damage because the less time it takes you to take out the boss, the less time there is for you to make mistakes.
So, just apply everything you have during this fight.
Could bring the slow-down pills, or use your bombs (don't blow yourself up!), everything that gives you an edge in the fight. Sometimes its just worth it to "save" a good active item's charges for that one boss-fight that might give you trouble.
