Feels like everything bad about the game was dialed up to 11. Seemingly nothing but useless items with no DPS, huge rooms full of tanky enemies, enemies who hide and waste your time, burrow and waste your time, more and more items that have no discernible use until you look up a damn guide. Where are the fun synergies? Where are the roguelike decision making puzzles? The only decision I really have is do I want to go for this stupid megaboss with a billion HP again that I'm tired of, or put this game away.
yeah man. add to that list rooms where enemies get stuck in a tight spot and don't pathfind towards you and you have basically have to take damage to clear the room.
I just get the feeling that there is very little play testing and honest attempts at balancing vs just making sure whatever thing works and doesn't break the game. but nobody cares to mention it because muh hardcore game or something
My advice, take a break and play something different. And hope it keeps you interested for even half as long as Isaac did.
There are not a lot of people working on this as it's not a big corporation but an individual's business/game. So I guess it's fair to say they likely aren't having big groups of play testers. But it is far from seeming to be done carelessly and without thought. Updates are being done all the time.
You are also choosing to play without all the DLC. The DLC are basically paid updates that they put effort into making the game more balanced along with giving it more content.
I'm an old lady who only started playing games in the last few years. My other games with similar hours are Stardew Valley and minecraft. So shockingly I'm playing the game because I actually enjoy it, not suffering through play for an image. Just because you don't like it any more is no reason to put down others who do like it.
