The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

not having fun with the game anymore
I am like 300 hours deep. it just feels like SO often I am 15 mins into a run and have base stats and useless items. like 1 in 10 items, maybe less, will actually help you clear a room. greed mode is equally unfun, just feels like there are numerous points where you can't do anything/there is no outplaying what is happening. I feel like the base game was much easier, better proportion of strong items, less outright useless items. Less huge rooms

very few items are useless after all the buffs repentance had. the huge rooms get annoying tho

Take some time to play some fun characters just for fun instead of only playing the harder ones you have left for unlocks.

maybe get some mods or aim for unlocks and stuff. Or open a new file to start over.

Take a break from grinding it out, just play the daily run to switch it up and to not get rusty. Eventually the game will freshen up again and you'll be able to get back to grinding unlocks

They expanded the eligible items for the Oh Crap transformation and allowed it to trigger off of poops that enemies were transformed into. And of course Dirty Mind exists now.

Give yourself goals to work towards, like specific unlocks. Really the more you unlock the easier the game gets as you're gonna have a lot more good items

Congrats, you've realized how every rogue-like game works. Cry about it, cope and keep playing because we're all here addicted to getting these lucky op runs

They really screwed this game up. Used to be I could play this for hours making interesting decisions about what I would do around each corner, even after getting all the unlocks in the first few expansions it was still fun to see what would happen next run.

Feels like everything bad about the game was dialed up to 11. Seemingly nothing but useless items with no DPS, huge rooms full of tanky enemies, enemies who hide and waste your time, burrow and waste your time, more and more items that have no discernible use until you look up a damn guide. Where are the fun synergies? Where are the roguelike decision making puzzles? The only decision I really have is do I want to go for this stupid megaboss with a billion HP again that I'm tired of, or put this game away.

I actually have most of the items, really I've been focusing on boss rush/hush completion. I think the timed aspect plus both of those being pretty hard makes this all so frustrating, I wonder if it's worth playing on normal difficulty just to get whatever item unlocks? I don't see much difference between normal and hard, my main problem is the amount of rooms per floor, amount of big rooms, amount of "meme" rooms etc I'm not really sure that would change

yeah man. add to that list rooms where enemies get stuck in a tight spot and don't pathfind towards you and you have basically have to take damage to clear the room.

I just get the feeling that there is very little play testing and honest attempts at balancing vs just making sure whatever thing works and doesn't break the game. but nobody cares to mention it because muh hardcore game or something

300 hours? Sound like you got your money's worth and then some.

My advice, take a break and play something different. And hope it keeps you interested for even half as long as Isaac did.

hold R until you get a tier 4 item in an adjacent item room :cozyspaceengineersc:

There are not a lot of people working on this as it's not a big corporation but an individual's business/game. So I guess it's fair to say they likely aren't having big groups of play testers. But it is far from seeming to be done carelessly and without thought. Updates are being done all the time.

You are also choosing to play without all the DLC. The DLC are basically paid updates that they put effort into making the game more balanced along with giving it more content.

I'm an old lady who only started playing games in the last few years. My other games with similar hours are Stardew Valley and minecraft. So shockingly I'm playing the game because I actually enjoy it, not suffering through play for an image. Just because you don't like it any more is no reason to put down others who do like it.
