Big golden chest

[Hello :)]

I'm pretty new to the game, when i beat the last boss a huge golden chest sits in the middle of the room , and when i touch it the game ends.
Is it supposed to end there? i'm pretty sure i can get "in" the chest but i can't figure out how

Yes, it is supposed to end, the big golden chest is just what the successful end looks like.
If you continue to play you will unlock further paths and endings, just keep going.

IIRC, that chest doesn't even show up until your second successful run. Therefore, you should rightly realize that there's far more to this game than just beating "the last boss" once. You'll find out what those scare quotes are for if you either beat it eleven more times or manage to unlock and enter the devil or angel room on one of those times.

Considering their last achievement I assume they mean Mom's Heart.

Don't know if you skip the ending cinematic OP, but you might want to keep watching those. You'll see they all start the same way, but end differently, indicating progress!

Yeah it's moms heart, and i do just automatically skip the cinematic :x

No worries, haha. What I meant is you could have noticed they were different, meaning you actually do something (you don't just get the same one in a loop).
Feel free to check the endings menu (in stats) to see the differences.
