Tainted Isaac and transformations

What's the situation with tainted Isaac and trying to get transformations? Does it for example remember that you held passive Guppy items or do you need to actively have them for the transformation to work?

you need to actually hold them still, it you wont transform as long as you touch three guppy items anymore, same with other transformations sadly.

i think as long as you have all 3 at the same time it'll give you the transformaton then you can drop the items. I did that successfully with spun in greed mode today

that's too bad. none of the passive guppy item are good enough to keep holding them if you don't get them early on. now I only have greed and greedier mode left with tainted isaac, so getting guppy is not gonna happen anyway lol

I had a devil room with two Guppy items and I was already holding Guppy's Paw. I took the devil deals to get the transformation, then I traded the Guppy items back and continued onwards to beat Mega Satan and Delirium.
