Reworked Sacrifice rooms? R.I.P my Eden run

I was having the best Eden run of my life with the golden teleporter, hitting I am Error rooms every floor. I killed mom and used the teleporter again. Knowing there were was still a battery in one of the rooms. I did not opened the boss-challenge room yet so I knew I needed to go down to one heart to open it (at this point I had two rotten hearts and one soul heart) I entered a sacrifice room as I could fly at this point thanks to Lord of the Pit. I depleted my soul heart and was getting ready to exhaust one of my two final rotten hearts when then, as I hovered over the sacrificial spikes it killed my isaac ending my glorious eden run. SO NOW I finally ask how the hell did I die from the sacrifice room when I had two rotten hearts? I hope my tragedy made you laugh, and any explanation would help end my frustration.

Rotten hearts count as 1/2 a heart afaik

from my understanding of the wiki it states "Rotten Hearts fill up one whole heart container, or the rightmost Red Heart if all of Isaac's heart containers are full. (It isn't possible to have one-half a Rotten Heart; they are always depleted in one hit.)" wouldnt that mean I had two attempts to sacrifice without death?

I assume it means Rotten hearts take the place of a full heart, but actually count as only half a heart.
Since spikes do a full heart of damage, you lost both rotten hearts at the same time (two halves).

Iirc you lose an extra heart when you lose a rotten heart

Rotten hearts are equivalent to half a heart, but take up as much space as a full heart. It is not possible to have half of a rotten heart *because* the full heart counts as half a heart.

Therefore if a sacrifice room takes "1 heart of damage" It would realistically take two rotten hearts to meet its requirement of sacrifice. Am I getting that right?

Yeah. They could make that clearer in game. It would probably be better if the rotten hearts graphics were actually rotten to the half of the heart to imply it's just half of a heart usable.
