Is there a guaranteed way to get the red key?

Is there or is it totally RNG to get the key and unlock a tainted character?

You're able to place a trinket in a boss room and on you're way back up it'll turn into a cracked key which is a usable item thats like the red key

yeah, after you get dads note and you ascend back home, you just drop any trinket in any boss room and you'll get one of the keys

you get cracker jacks, leave the trinket in the boss room, and see it not there anymore i guess
also if you're looking for any tainted characters, i recommend Judas, hes very fun :)

Worth noting that you can also leave trinkets behind in item rooms and this too will transform them into a cracked key during the ascent.

Oh I remember seeing a red cracked trinket. Do I need 2 trinkets in a boss room?

just one, the item will be like a card in the way you use it

Only one. Drop literally any trinket in any boss or item room during your run then during the ascent this trinket will become a single use red key that you can take to Home with you.
